“A 'B & B' with aspirations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2014

We stayed here between 4th and 8th October this year. It is possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It is a B & B with aspirations to be a boutique hotel, but actually without much of a breakfast either. The bedrooms we were allocated were in the middle of the hotel and therefore airless with no windows to the outside making the rooms fusty smelling. The walls were paper thin and you could hear everything in the next door room. The photos of this hotel bear no resemblance to the room we were given at this hotel. There never seemed to be anybody around for any service including at breakfast when you had to knock on the kitchen door to get any tea bags or hot water and were then allocated only one tea bag each! Breakfast consisted of a cold buffet of bread and bits of cheese and ham. We were offered eggs only once during our stay. The only good thing I can say about breakfast was that there was freshly squeezed orange juice.

The hotel is located in a distinctly dodgy area with graffiti covered buildings surrounding it. It is close to a lively area with some very good bars and restaurants but you have a ten minute walk through the dodgy area to get to this. You are not allocated a key during your stay and must therefore wait to be let in when you return making it feel even more like a B & B.

I don't know what rate we paid for this as we booked it as part of a package tour of Argentina but I suspect it was far more than we should have paid. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Dear guests,

Thank you very much for writing your valuable feedback about our hotel.

We acknowledge your disappointment while we are all at Krista very sorry that we did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to answer every point of your review:

According to our records you stayed with your family, a party of 4. Therefore, you were assigned a Quadruple room, with 2 connected bedrooms with their individual bathroom and all the amenities. While one of the bedrooms has a door and a window-door, which you can open at any time with no restriction, the second room does have a window, along with its door. These 2 bedrooms, in the middle of the property and away from the lobby and breakfast lounge, open to a large courtyard. As an improvement recently made, both bedrooms have their individual air conditioning unit. While in many hotels a quadruple room does not have a wall that divides 2 bedrooms, this category of room at our property does have it, for the comfort of the members of a same group or family. If privacy or noise reduction was your concern, we would have been very pleased to change you to 2 different rooms with complete isolation but, having spent the first night, we received no warning or complaint from you. Regarding the photographs and description, the pictures published in our web site and other on-line agencies reflect the real size, furniture, amenities, decoration of all our rooms, even their colour, there are no tricks.

You will never find our staff walking permanently along the corridors; just a few times, to monitor the safety, quiet and tidiness of all amenities in common areas. Our concierges are available at all times by calling the front desk, even during the night, to satisfy all needs, to solve any problem, no matter how difficult it is.

Despite our area is very safe, integrity of our guests and our staff is our # 1 priority, therefore we keep our entrance door closed at all times, as in most of boutique hotels in Buenos Aires. In addition to our safety measures, a camera monitors the entrance door and all other areas of the hotel, always. Our 24hr concierge will promptly open the door once you ring the bell. Our hotel is in a quiet street of vibrant Palermo Hollywood. You do not need to walk 10 minutes to the closest bars and restaurants, since most of them are 2 or 3 blocks from the hotel. Palermo Soho and Plaza Cortázar are just 8 blocks from us. Grafittis are part of the “landscape” in Buenos Aires by now, and they are more evident is some areas than others. Just a few walls in our surroundings have been painted with grafittis.

Although our breakfast is served as a self-serve buffet and that our concierge is attentive to all the requests of our guests, we agree with you that during breakfast hours we must strenghten the service and we will take immediate measures to improve it, as it affects our overall service. We are sorry if you could savour only one tea, our premium tea box is open on one of the shelves for free serve. We appreciate that you could enjoy our freshly squeezed orange juice. Along with it, our breakfast includes everything you need to start your day, and was available to you at all times: American and Espresso coffee, teas, hot and cold milk, cereals, fresh fruit salad, jams, dulce de leche & butter, croissants, assorted cookies and pudding, sliced bread, ham & cheese and eggs cooked to the order.

Once again, thank you very much for your feedback and for giving us the opportunity to express our point of view.

Cordially,

Cristina Marsden

I can't say enough about the great service, atmosphere and aesthetic of this 10 room hotel. It feels like the perfect mix of old classic architecture and modern conveniences. Combine this with attentive security and the professional and abundantly generous staff and it's a great combo in a hectic city. Juliette, Alejandro and the other staff members catered cheerfully to our many requests for assistance with visas for Uruguay and Brazil, feeding breakfast to a vegan teenager, and cheerfully arranging tickets and cars for different events. For three of us we had the room #1 "suite" which is one room plus an ensuite bath but the connection to a small courtyard through French doors, a small entry room with a second door, direct access to a usually vacant lobby with another bathroom gave a bonus living space. Excellent service and quality. There is some sort of plumbing leak with the bathtub but it wasn't worth complaining about given the cheerful and attentive staff.

Room Tip: Room #1 is the largest although still one room even though they call it a suite. The bonus spaces ad...

Hotel Krista is well located. The staff, especially Alex, were extremely helpful with our million questions and helped get our LAN boarding passes. Great breakfast! The decor is lovely. Great place to stay...we felt very at home, after 8 nights.

At this hotel it really felt like the Perons were going to walk in! We stayed in a deluxe room which was quite small but comfortable - we had been travelling for 3 weeks so had quite a lot of luggage. The office staff were so friendly and helpful giving us lots of tips about restaurants and sights. A lot of effort had gone in to renovating the hotel in 1930s style which did work.
The bathroom had a problem with the bath and it could have done with some modernising. The breakfast was good too. I liked the Nespresso machine especially as the coffee wasn't so great.
It was the location in Palermo that was so great - lots going on and had a real buzz to it. Lots of very good bars and restaurants including the famous la Cabrera - best steak in Argentina!?

All in all a very good place to stay.

Dear guests,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We have been very pleased to welcome you to Krista, an early XX century family residence that opened in 2006, being one of the first hotels in Palermo. Although some areas have been restored to set the 10 rooms, the architecture (front, galleries, columns, walls, floors, courtyards, hallways) and decoration (ceilings, plaster, boiserie and paneling) are original of this 20s house and were all restored to embellish them after the pass of the century.

As you mentioned, we are surrounded by the best bars and restaurants in Palermo -and amongst the best in all Buenos Aires-, but the hotel is in a quiet residential area within walking distance to major attractions in the area.

We apologize for the inconvenience with the deep soaking bathtub, our maintenance staff has already done the necessary work on it.

Finally, our staff will be always attentive to your requests, giving you advice about the different cultural and recreational attractions in Buenos Aires, based on their own knowledge and experience.

We hoping that you have enjoyed the rest of your trip in Argentina!

Cristina Marsden

My friends and I stayed here for 4 nights in July and it was great. The hotel feels like a classic, elegant home. The location is in a neighborhood setting with several excellent dining options nearby. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, and they were very accommodating to my friend who was sick a with a harsh cold. The breakfast (a beautiful spread of breads, jams, cold-cuts, and eggs-on-request) was delicious and so lovely to wake up to. The hotel can stand on its own, but what really makes this place a standout is the kind and generous staff. I miss them already.

Room Tip: If you can, splurge a little and go for a deluxe room.

I am normally more addict of modern hotels, where you are sure to find standard quality.
The Krysta Hotel had been boked by my company for a business trip and it was a real good surprise to me!
The rooms and the hotel itself are very nicely decorated, it's very calm, the olfactive ambiance is wonderful and helps to feel confortable and just like "at home".
There is the possibility to get (for free) the breakfast in the room. You have free wifi. Palermo is the right place to stay because there are a lot of restaurants and bars few meters away from the hotel, so you don't need a car at night to go out.
The people in Krysta Hotel were really helpful, the service level was very good.
