After staying one week at Posada Gotan, and before leaving Buenos Aires, we wanted to share our experience in this lovely Bed and Breakfast.

Thibaud, the owner, and all his team always did the best to help us to visit Buenos Aires and to give us the best attention. We discovered wonderful places and restaurants not indicated in our guide. We went to Oviedo, a very good Mediterranean restaurant in Recoleta and we had a wonderful experience in La Cabrera, one of the best steakhouse of the city (in Palermo Hollywood).

Gabriela, his wife is a fashion journalist and produces TV programs for FOX. She indicated us the best place to buy clothes and leather and she sent us to Rafaël Gorófalo, one of the best Prêt à Porter designer of Argentina (we went directly to the warehouse and had the best prices!)

The Posada is built in a house of 1900, very well restored. It is simple, elegant and has gorgeous services! A very good breakfast with fresh orange juice and French home made croissants and bread. There is a free access to Internet and a Wi Fi connection. Bedrooms are not very large but are very clean and have there private bathroom. It is a very quiet place and we could finally sleep well.

The neighborhood is interesting because of its little bars that give Tango concerts. It is not in the micro-center but we always took taxis which are very cheap (4/5 Dollars to go to one side to another of the city) Anyway, at the beginning of our trip, we where in a hotel in the very center of Buenos Aires. It is crowdie of people during the day and totally empty at night. That’s why we chose to stay in a neighborhood at the end of our trip.

We definitely recommend this place. Many thanks to Thibaud and all his team and see you soon!

This hotel is not in the center or near anything of particular interest.

The owner gave us horrible suggestions that wasted our time.

The reason that I would not recommend the hotel is that the rooms were aweful. They were clean but tiny with no clocks, shelves, hooks, drawers, phones. In fact there was no phone in the entire hotel for customer use. The only natural light coming into the rooms must be blocked out because it comes from the french doors which open onto the interior courtyard where anyone of the hotel guest can peer in.

The breakfast is recycled the entire week.

Management response from Thibaud Marigny, owner
(Management representative)
Feb 23, 2007
Dear guest,

It has been a surprise for us to find this really bad comment in Trip advisor. It is the very first time since the beginning of our activity. If you read the other comments, you will see that they are all very nice and make a completely different description of the Posada.

If you had a problem during your stay, you could have informed us! So we could have done everything to repair it giving you an other bedroom or responding to your personal requests. You just had to ask us as all our guests do when they need something!

Our neighborhood is not without interest. It has been declared a main tourist area by the government of the city of Buenos Aires for its bars and Tango places! Our breakfast is not recycled and we have phone and hairdryer for our guests.

I am so sorry if I gave you horrible suggestions and waste your time! It would have been the first time. We always recommend the place where we like to go. We know perfectly our city and we have no interest to give you bad places to go!

It is a shame that you don't declare your name and that we discover now your problem. We are so sorry about it. It has really affected us and we really don’t understand your motivations.

Best regards,
Thibaud Marigny
Owner

After staying 9 nights at the Posada Gotan, we give it a “two thumbs up”. At first sight, the neighborhood lacks the charm and glitz of some of the other more touristic barrios de Buenos Aires (e.g. Palermo, San Telmo, La Recoleta…) . Indeed, there are few trendy cafes and restaurants, the sidewalks are uneven and in need of repair and few people are strolling by in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Yet, Boedo is a typical working class neighborhood, and there is ample life -but more noise- along the large avenidas within a 5 minute walk. On these avenidas, there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops, and the prices are much lower than in touristic areas. Moreover, taxis can whisk you quickly and easily to the microcenter of the city with fares averaging between 3 and 4 US$. The hotel location, albeit slightly peripheral, proved to have its advantages because of the quieter neighborhood and ease of access to active trendy (and noisier) areas of town.

The hotel itself is a completely renovated home dating from the late 1800s. The new style is elegant and simple, a tasteful and charming combination of modern and antique. The rooms open on to a central patio where one can enjoy the tranquility surrounded by potted plants. Most rooms are quite small, and for this reason, an “upgrade” to the larger suite is worth the extra price ($10) per night. The rooms are simple, with tile floors, comfortable beds and antique wooden furniture. The hotel is spotless! Don’t expect, however , the extra “frills” that come with more expensive US-styled bed-and-breakfast (e.g. hair dryers, creams, bathrobes, shower caps etc…).

Breakfast is included with the price of the room and consists of French-pressed coffee, tea or mate, fresh-squeezed orange juice, toasts, and a basket of assorted Argentine pastries “du jour”.

What makes this small hotel very special, however , is the personal attention of the staff, from the owner (Thibaud Marigny) to the cleaning ladies and the night assistants. Upon request, you can receive excellent advice (and reservations) for local or other restaurants, including those that do not cater exclusively to tourists. With such advice, we feasted at memorable places and we never regretted following Thibaud’s recommendations. Help was appreciated also to reserve taxis at any time of the day and night.
Overall, it was a very good experience with only one minor caveat: many tourists do come to Buenos-Aires to dance Argentine Tango, and in this city, this means coming back late at night and sleeping during the day... The Posada Gotan, with all of it rooms centered around the patio, is not really amenable to daytime sleeping... Indeed, the patio amplifies conversations, and as soon as people begin talking, then sleep becomes difficult. Ear plugs were the easy solution to this minor inconvenience that does not detract from the overall quality of the inn....
We are likely to return to this inn during future visits!

This small B and B had been recently totally renovated, so it is very clean, attractive and fresh. The owner, Thibaud, is very helpful regarding suggestions and reservations for dinner, sites and transportation. Breakfast is taken in the sm dining room or on the patio under an umbrella. It consisted of coffee, juice and small pastries. There is internet available at no additional charge. They will wake you if you need to get up early(as we did) for a flight. Note that the location is not near the tourist attractions or shopping, it is in a neighborhood. We took a taxi every day to get into the center of town...not bad if you don't come back to change for dinner. The taxis are cheap and readily available...they call one for you. It's the time you spend in them that gets old. The subway is only 4 blocks away as an alternate to avoid the traffic.

We really enjoyed staying at the Posada and everything written about it here is true. The staff was always more than helpful, the room was large with a great bed, nice bath and the breakfasts were some of the best we had in South America!!!

We liked the fact it was in a residential area and the taxi was only a few dollars...we usually took the metro though. BA is such a noisey city that I couldn't imagine staying in a busy area.

They recommended La Brigada in San Telmo for steaks and they were the best since Texas!!! And we were the only tourists! Try the ojo de bife!!! It was 2+ inches thick.

My only problem was with BA in general...the most dangerous, "uneven" sidewalks with pet wastes than I have ever seen in the world!!!

The Posada kept their front very nice and we especially liked the courtyard.
