Look out Alvear Palace theres a "new kid in town". We were traveling with my brother who has been in the hotel business for 35 plus years. My brother and his family stayed at the beautiful Alvear Palace but we could not get a reservation to stay there also. He mentioned on a previous trip there that a new Hyatt was being built just a couple of blocks away.Wow what a place. The staff could not have been more helpful !! Our room was in the palace side of the property I highly reccommend asking for that.We were in room 405.High tech meets the old world charm. As a previous writer commented the bath and shower area of the room are incredible. This room had a seperated dressing area and its own small courtyard just off of the bedroom. The breakfast on the balcony every morning overlooking the gardens was wonderful. We felt like ROYALTY !! Really did not want to check out !

We arrived at the Duhau at 10:30 pm dirty and disheveled directly following a very active, rustic tour of northern patagonia. We awkwardly oggled the lobby's beautiful marble and wooden carvings and mildly austere modern aesthetic in our muddy hiking boots with crazy hair flying. Reception was waiting for us (honeymooners) and couldn't have been more charming as they ignored our appearance even as the fashionable jewel bedecked hotel patrons oggled us with curiousity. We received a quick tour of the premises, which are a startling and exquisite combination of modern touches on the original palacial structures and brought us to our "park deluxe king" on the palace side of the hotel (we strongly recommend requesting a room on the palace side as opposed to the "new rooms"). The room was just amazing with modern amenities, delicious linens, and a large bathoom with a full bath complete with candles, loofah scub and personal bath salts. Did I mention the shower had a ledge to put the champagne glasses on? Champagne in the shower! There were granny smith apples on either side of the bed, electronic blackout shades and a chandelier in the bathroom. The decor may be a little too "west elm" (e.g., very neutral colors), but the red gerbera daisies we purchased in the lobby to brighten the room really made everything perfect. When we were finally alone in our room, we danced the duhau jig. We were not disappointed with any aspect of the hotel during our stay. The internal courtyard garden is romantic and has an aura from another century, the bar drinks fresh and fanciful and modern and the service excellent. They may have had a rough start, but they seem well on their way to working out all of the kinks.

  • Liked — Amazing bed, great turn down service, champagne ledge in the shower, automatic black out shades
  • Disliked — Very monotone decor...Needed to add some flowers for color.

A beautiful building, esthetically appealing. One could say that functionality has been sacrificed for aesthetics. The useful areas, that are very well appointed, are connected by convoluted up and down pathways that require a GPS to navigate them! Not to mention that you do require perfect physical fitness to reach the different levels of the ground floors. It would be a little better if the signs with directions would be visible to the naked eyes. Once in our room we were greeted by an army of red ants covering the convenience bar. This problem necessitated the assistance of at least four different "specialists" over a two day period to debate and finally reach a solution (by the way our suggestion). Obviously they were very inexperienced in that kind of problem! It was interesting to be surprised every day by different hours of room cleaning and turndown service which by the way was done only once during our stay.

Our exit was heartbreaking to say the least. Not only it took 42 minutes to bring our luggage down, but the transport car to the airport that they booked for us arrived 35 minutes late and only after my exasperation was made obvious. We barely made it to our flight. It was interesting to watch that every decision or service required deliberations among at least 3 or 4 staff members all of them younger than our grandchildren.

Other than that the room was of good size and the high tech appliances impressive although we believe that an instructions book would be useful to be able to at least turn on and off the lights in one attempt. Never again!!

I was on business and we were booked into the Duhau - the property is gorgeous. There is this amazing garden that connects the old building and the new building. It's great for breakfast and for drinks. Immaculately clean, beautifully lit - I loved it.
The rooms are huge with beautiful floors, fixtures and lighting. Beds are really comfortable and you have everything you need.
The spa is beautiful and exactly what you imagine and want in a spa.
The thing that really makes the Duhau stand out, however, is the staff. I have never in my life had such an attentive staff - everyone, from the front door to housekeeping to waiters - everyone is fabulously trained and really attentive to the smallest details. Just to give you an idea - I was using a random piece of paper to mark my page in my book and the housekeeping added a proper bookmark.
One of our colleagues was staying in the Four Seasons and said that our hotel was definitely the place to be.
I highly, highly recommend it to anyone.

We spent a week at this recently opened hotel and could not have been happier. The room was spotlessly clean always along with the entire property. All the latest tech gadgets; flat screen hd tv, electric draperies, phone you can take anywhere in the hotel, free computer use at the business center, etc. Staff (desk, concierge, housekeeping, airport pickup) very charming and efficient.
We did not take breakfast at the hotel, but ate in nearby cafes, which we prefer.
The art gallery is the highest quality in BA and beautifully displayed. The public areas of the hotel are a seamless blend of the old elegance updated with lots of hip, contemporary style.
Great Recoleta location near Patio Bulrich, very walkable to museums, shopping, cemetery, restaurants, other top hotels.
