I am from New York City and just spent the week in Buenos Aires, the last 3 nights at this hotel. This property is AMAZING. I can't say enough good things about it. It is hands down the best in BA and it takes your breath away when you walk in. (If you're debating between the Four Seasons and Alvear Palace, this is the one you want.) The property is only a year old. It has two sections - a converted mega mansion with the most expensive suites, connected to a modern tower. Both sides are stunning, with limestone and Jerusalem stone finishes, original artwork, and gorgeous floral arrangements everywhere you look. In the center "courtyard" of both buildings is a huge lush landscaped garden where you can dine in one of two restaurants (very good food) either alfresco or indoors. We stayed in a Park Deluxe Room in the new tower which was enormous and elegant with a glass stall rainshower, soaking tub, separate toilet area, hardwood oak floors, walk in closet - all super high end finishes. Maid service was top-notch and you are hard pressed to find an area in the hotel which isn't spiffed up the second after it is used by someone. Turndown service every evening with such attention to detail that we were floored and always excited to return to the room at night to see what they did! They literally wrapped up cords for us into neat knots, organized our toiletries in perfect rows on the bathroom counter, folded clothing. The biggest surprise was that after traveling for a week subsisting on one electrical converter for recharging all of our electronics (cell phones, Blackberry, Ipod), this hotel has US sockets at every plug site in the room (side-by-side with Argentinian sockets) - totally ingenious. It is touches like this that sets this hotel apart into its own class. Got a wonderful massage at the immaculate and gorgeous spa; you are handed a kettle of tea to relax with in the spa room after the massage while you are free to relax on the in-room chaise, use the shower, etc. An army of hotel employees wait outside to hail and escort you to a cab. If you want to feel like a VIP close to all sites worth seeing in B.A. (including Rodeo Drive-esque shopping), this is definitely the place for you.

My husband and I plus a friend who was travelling with us, spent three nights at the Park Hyatt adter a Regent Seven Seas cruise in Feb 08. Note that Regent is a hard act to follow (!) but the Park Hyatt turned up trumps. We loved the blend of the old, historic palace and the new building, linked by a lovely garden, beautifully lit at night. The room was nicely furnished - the only negative was the size of the closet. Above all the hotel is very quiet, both inside and out.
We had several meals there and were impressed with their food. Lunch at the Gioia restaurant is perfect between sightseeing and shopping - a buffet of antipasti, and a buffet of desserts. You can, if you wish, add a main course, but the starter and the dessert were fine for us. Eating dinner outside in the garden is a lovely experience.
The hotel is beautifully situated, very close to the centre of town (if BA has a centre!) but in a quiet, tree lined neighbourhood which reminded us of the Upper East side in NY without the dirt and noise. There is a small shopping mall across the street and around 6 restaurants at the end of the road, should one not feel like eating in the hotel.
I thoroughly recommended the Park Hyatt. It is very stylish and very comfortable and the free internet access is a plus!

Stayed here on our way to Antarctica, booked through travel agency. With 30 years in the hotel industry, I can say from experience that the staff is outstanding. The food in the hotel rivals free-standing restaurants. And although a little bland, the decore of the hotel is comfortable. The location makes walking to many places pleasant....or a short, reasonably priced taxi ride.

The Palacio Duhau has a great location right on Alvear (the main shopping street) and is just a 6-7 minute walk from the Recoletta Cemetary.

The entrance on the ALvear Avenue (Through the old building) is beautiful. We were welcomed by the staff who immediately took our luggage from the taxi. The reception quickly checked us in.

Our room was in the new building, which can be accessed using an underground passageway. The whole process of getting from on side to the other proved a little annoying during our 4-day stay.

Access to the swimming pool (located under the old building) was also in the corridor. So in order to get to the swimming pool, we need to take the elevator to the main lobby in the new building, walk through the lobby, go down the stairs, walk through the passage, go up some stairs, and finally reach the swimming pool. The swimming pool/spa were actually beautiful and the service was great. (The pictures on the website do not do justice to the swimming pool.

Concierge and doormen were very polite and helpful throughout our stay. The concierge booked several restaurants during our stay and would send a small printed confirmation with the address each time.

Incident: On one occasion, the maid did somehow misplace our slippers. we called in for two new pairs but still had to wait 10-15 minutes for them (which mattered since the swimming pool was about to close).

Incident 2: I was unhappy with one initiative one of the concierges took when I asked for them to reserve a table a the PAcha Nightclub. While I thought they had done the reservation as asked, they had actually booked the services of an escort 'freind' who would take around abrs and nightclubs. This was not really adequate since I was on a romantique getaway with my girlfriend.

Overall, the hotel is really nice. The room was clean, the bathroom was huge, and the closet was walk-in. I did however find the design to lack a local touch. It was the typical park hyatt design you would expect in Chicago or California.

We did not have time to try any of the restaurants but they seemed very nice and the menus were appealing.
