“Excellent, intimate and classical small boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Don’t be disappointed with the look of the outside and its immediate environs. Inside the hotel has a classical feel of a bygone era. Rooms and furnishings are comfortable and in style with the general ambience of the building. Its very close to the city heart (walking distance).

The breakfasts are great and served by pleasant staff. The receptionist / manager is exceptionally helpful. If you want 5 star hotel facilities go somewhere else - if you want a 5 star experience of the former glorious days of Argentina - stay here.

Our reservation got canceled by the modern hotel we booked in San Telmo (nightmare - avoid Prestigia.com) and they booked us in to this hotel instead. Although the location is actually quite far from the hotel we booked and San Telmo neighborhood, it was lovely in it's own way.

The building is unmarked and does not look like a hotel from the outside. Inside it is a different world from the street. This boutique hotel has a quaint, shabby chic appearance, more like a french provincial home than a city hotel. The owners have taken care in the hotel's decor and ambiance, restoring the original decorative molding and touches like a fireplace, footed tub, and sprawling garden. Breakfast was lovely with fresh squeeze juice, and the service was courteous and relaxing.

A few things to note, the hotel only accepted cash (at least for us). It's a few blocks away from an undesirable neighborhood and there's not a lot around (we walked the wrong direction one night). And owner and staff admittedly did not speak English. Also, Wifi was not accessible in the rooms due to low signal. If any of these are issue for you I'd opt for a bigger hotel in a more touristy neighborhood.

Room Tip: Choose room closer to front in hopes of stronger wifi signal.

Booked the least expensive room in the hotel, however this was still US$100 per night and I had expected better for the price. The hotel markets itself as an old building with fresh/modern decor. However, the room had not been cleaned adequately, there were large cracks in the wall, musty smell and moths. The bathroom needed rennovating. We spoke to hotel staff who kindly moved us into another room which was much nicer, though the bathroom was still poor.

Positives:
Lovely breakfast of warm croissants and bread rolls, eggs, fruit salad, tea/coffee and juice. Nice communal area and garden. Lovely staff.

Negatives:
Expected better based on marketing. Bathroom was particularly poor.

Room Tip: Book a more expensive room for cleaner/better quality.

We stayed here after coming back from a few days at an estancia before moving on to Mendoza. We wanted a hotel where we could crash for two nights without too much stress. This was fine, but did not blow me away by any means. I wasn't a huge fan of the neighborhood, and you had to walk quite a ways in order to get to any restaurants. I know this is a small item, but we got here after a long day of traveling and all we wanted to do was sit down and watch a little TV. The TV only had 13 channels and they were all Spanish. I know I'm in Argentina, but when they advertise TV this is not what most people expect. The garden, however, was very lovely. They had a book exchange in the rooms, so I was able to trade in one of mine for another and sit out in the garden. Wished we would have stayed at Hotel Babel again for these two nights, but we wanted to try another neighborhood. You know what they say about hindsight...

Drea05.
We are very sad to hear that you had an average experience in our hotel.
It is a real shame that during your stay you did not go to Aramburu resto, which is located only 20 meters away from our hotel. By the
way, it is the best restaurant according to Trip Advisor.
We had other options near by if you did not want to walk "quite away" (1 block, 3, 4, 5 or more). You only needed to ask the
receptionist for advice. We also offer to phone to restaurants that deliver food when our guests are too tired to go out. You only
needed to ask and we would had helped you.
Regarding the TV, we advertice what we have: cable TV with more than 60 channnel from all over the world. If you thought something was
wrong with the TV in your room, our best advice is to call for help. We try to solve all problems inmediatly and if we can not do it,
we are always willing to offer a room upgrade. You stayed with us two days, again, it is a shame you did not call for assistance.

A beautiful boutique hotel in San Telmo this hotel was an oasis in the enormous city. The welcome was warm, the room beautiful, the garden peaceful and quiet, the breakfast superb. This hotel is excellent value for money.
A highlight of our visit to Buenos Aries was hiring bikes for a day in San Telmo and safely cycling the bike paths around the city. Who would have thought this was possible it was the most fantastic 8 hours of cycling.

The room was clean and quiet. The AC worked well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were good. The original artwork throughout was a nice touch. The area isn't the best, but my wife and I walked back every night and we never faced any problems. We arrived on a Sunday, just in time for the San Telmo market (not to be missed.) I'd stay here again.

It was a very lovely hotel with decent interior and breakfast. Full stop. However, every night, we struggled with quite a lot of mosquito. We asked them for an aerosol but all they gave us was mosquito killing scented paper (?) and apparently it did not work...
Location is ok - it is not center center but the tube station is just 5 minutes away so you can go wherever you want via a tube. Not bad...but to be honest, I will find a hotel in Palermo area where we went everyday while we were in BA... (maybe just personal preference but we both really liked there!)

Hope they can manage some insects in the room as well. Other than that, it was a good staying..
