“Great hotel/great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights in November 2012 while visiting our son who was studying abroad in Buenos Aires. This was a great place; mid-sized; 4 rooms on each of 8 floors. The staff was extremely helpful and very accomodating. When we arrived very early from the US, they were able to check us into our room; otherwise we would have been able to change and shower in the spa on the 9th floor. All of the rooms are named after jazz artists; were in room 62; named after Fletcher Henderson. The room was a good size; bed was great, and there were bathrobes and slippers and a mini-bar. The room was spotless. There is a nice lobby for relaxing and they have 2 laptops for guests to use. The breakfasts (included) are served buffet style and include a huge assortment of breads, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, cereal, eggs etc. There is a full bar and they have a jazz club downstairs where there is live music on Saturday nights. (unfortunately I came back too late and missed this). The location of the hotel is excelent; right near parks, museums and the Recoleta cemetary. Also walking distance to many great shops and one of the best empanada places in BA is right on the block. The staff, expecially Jose went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and this hotel offered very good value for the money in a prime area of Buenos Aires.

Room Tip: A higher floor probably means less street noise, though Posada is a fairly quiet block.

Beautiful small hotel in the one of the best locations. Good service, great free internet connection everywhere in the hotel.
The rooms are very tastefully decorated and ok in size. No bath in the bathroom a down point.
Street facing rooms can be noisy as there is a lot of traffic in the area.
The breakfast area is a bit dark but well kept, there is a sort of gazebo area but was not kept open, not sure why, would have been better to have breakfast there.
Very happy with the hotel, would stay there again. Good value for money.

Room Tip: Street facing rooms can be noisy

Stayed here for a few nights. Great location in the Recoletta area which is a safe, central area. Room was well furnished and generally clean, with some minor housekeeping issues. The buffet breakfast that was included in our package was excellent. Didn't eat lunch or dinner there so cannot offer any opinion.
The size of the hotel of approximately 50 rooms makes it feel somewhere between a large boutique to a small chain style hotel. One negative is a lack of a true concierge and the front desk staff, while trying to assist with "tourist" questions and recommendations, at least twice gave incorrect information or failed to provide information that a more experienced concierge would have offered. This is particularly of concern to first time visitors to BA, particularly for non Spanish speakers.
One other slight negative is that some areas of the hotel show wear and tear to the furnishings and carpets. A renovation might be a good idea at this time.
So on balance, the Melia Recoletta is a nice place to stay, but is a notch below 5 star standards. For the price though, it is more reasonable than some of the large 5 star hotels in the area, such as the Alvear or 4 Seasons.

Room Tip: Choose a suite if you want more space

A four-night stay for work was very plesant. The rooms were compact but well-laid out, clean, and beautifully decorated in a very old-world style. Lots of history to the building, be sure to read the placards in the lobby to get the full story. The Recoleta location provides lots of charm and easy access to many attractions, while being cleaner and safer than many other areas.

Be sure to be clear about which Melia hotel you want if you are taking a taxi from the airport - there is a much larger and better-known Melia in Centro. Despite telling the taxi driver clearly that we wanted the Melia in Recoleta we were left at the Melia in Centro.

The included breakfast is better than average - not a huge selection of items, but everything offered was of very high quality. Lunch in the hotel was agressively mediocre, and I would recommend avoiding the hotel restaurant after brekfast. Especially when there are excellent options next door on the same street.

My room did have one flaw - the bathroom seemed to have a persistant musty odour that was quite off-putting in the context of what otherwise felt like five-star surroundings. It did not seem like it was for lack of cleaning either. Coming back to the room in the afternoon it was clear that they had cleaned the bathroom with intoxicating quantities of bleach, but a few hours later the odour was back.

The hotel basement houses a "jazz cellar" with live music on Saturday nights. I did not a get a chance to check it out, but the venue looked pretty cool.

Been here twice in the past 4 years and can still say the service it keeps up its good name. The restaurant had good service though they didn't apologise for the bit of plastic found in the ice cream last night.

Hotel Melia was one of the hotels recommended to us by a lodge that caters to dove hunters in Cordoba knowing that we would have to layover in Buenos Aires. Our group of four enjoyed the hotel. The rooms were nice and prices were reasonable. The staff was nice and very helpful and stowed away our luggage while we were waiting on rooms and taking a tour of the city. I would recommend the hotel to anybody traveling the area. It is a small hotel with a nice bar and restaurant. It is a place that I would go to again.

Room Tip: If you are traveling in a small group, I would ask to have everybody on the same floor. There are...

The Hotel is really old. Small roons. Terrible breakfast. Terrible service.

It was setted late checkout on reservation, when we arrived they said it will be confirmed, at the day of checkout it said that it should be payied for late checkout, that it has a cost even when it was setted before.
