Three weeks prior to our trip to Buenos Aires, my boyfriend and I were notified that the travel agency that we had booked our trip through was going out of business, and that only our airfare had been paid for. We had made arrangements for our April trip back in December, and had a package that included airfare, hotel, and an estancia excursion. Since we now needed a place to stay, we took this opportunity to look into a few boutique hotels. Upon looking at Trip Advisor, I kept seeing rave review after rave review for Home Hotel in Palermo. Since I had also seen this hotel recommended in the February edition of Conde Nast Traveler, I figured this must be a pretty outstanding hotel.
After seeing all of the great reviews, we decided to book a room at Home Hotel. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about e-mailing/ faxing my credit card and passport information to reserve the room (no online credit card booking mechanism) , but all was handled very promptly and professionally, with e-mail contact from the staff confirming that all was well with the reservation.
Once at the hotel, I found the place to be very retro cool and friendly. The rooms were minimalist in design, but very comfortable (you will love the beds). By far, I must say that the best part of the stay at the hotel was the complentary breakfast. The outdoor dining area near the garden is a wonderful place to enjoy coffee (the coffee is also outstanding) and conversation. The standard breakfast includes coffee, fruit, juice and pastries, but you can also get poached eggs, cereal or other breakfast items for a small charge.
As most everyone has stated in previous reviews, what makes Home Hotel so special is its staff. I can not say enough about how helpful and freindly everyone was during my stay. I also have to send a special "thanks" to two of the staff members who were especially kind: Jimena for being so pleasant and helpful during breakfast, and Paula for being such a treat to talk to at the bar (thank you for the tea and the thoughtful note when I was ill, and thanks for the wonderful coffee as well).
The owners of this establishment knew what they were doing when they named this hotel "home," as they truly make you feel like you surrounded by friends with all the comforts of home. I will definitely stay here again in future trips to Buenos Aires, and will not hesitate to recommend the hotel to friends visiting this beautiful city.
