If you are going to Buenos Aires, you cannot go wrong with the Home Hotel. It seems like this hotel is no longer a secret: Trying to extend our stay was impossible due to the hotel being totally booked for the next month.
Home Hotel is located in Palermo, perhaps the coolest, most enjoyable part of Buenos Aires. The local area is filled with bars, cafes, restaurants and is the perfect place to stroll and discover new areas of Buenos Aires to love. It's a little far from the nearest subway stop, but given how cheap and plentiful taxis are, it's not a big issue.
The hotel itself is amazing. Small, personal and very very stylish. The pool/garden area at the back of the hotel is the perfect place to chill out, feels like a private beach club and looks like it has come out of a design magazine. You can have breakfast out here, which isn't to be missed either: The breakfast looks like a work of contemporary art (shot glasses of intriguing juice combinations, butter infusions etc), and tastes great.
Rooms, while on the small side, are stark but comfortable. The polished concrete floors are great in summer, but may be cold in winter.
Staff were fantastic throughout our stay, and they look good too (clearly the hotel is going for a certain effect). Don't forget to ask for their recommendations in the area - we cannot fault where they sent us for dinner. And you get a little guide book of places to go in BA, which have all proved really worthwhile.
Overall, this place is outstanding. You really won't forget it. And for the price, you'll keep asking where the catch is. There isn't one, but don't forget to book early.
GREAT STUFF:
- Design of the hotel, common areas
- Location in the coolest part of BA, quiet and serene
- Young, hip and good-looking staff know BA and where to go
- Pool/garden area is amazing
GOOD STUFF:
- Rooms and beds, comfortable but not 5-star
- Breakfast. Delicious, and looks great too
- Cheap laundry service
NOT SO GOOD STUFF:
- Drinks/food are expensive by BA standards
- Too many fashion/design types holding meetings in the garden area is a bit of an irritation for those on vacation
