My friend and I went to the Complejo Tango show on May 23, 2008. It was very nice once we got there. The free pickup bus was about 15 minutes late even though we were the first to be picked up. It amazed me how many places we stopped and no one got on. I am not sure if they were no shows or what. Once we arrived, we went straight to the tango lesson. Two very nice people showed us the basics, paired us up, if necessary, and let us dance. We learned the basic step in the about 45 minute class. Before the class, they collected our money. Many paid $80 US, but I paid with my Visa and was charged 240 Argentine pesos which came out to $76.88 on my credit card so a slight savings by charging. After the dance lesson, we were taken to our pre-assigned seats. They brought a menu and we could choose salad, entree, and dessert. Wine and bottled water were on the table and replenished as often as necessary. If one wanted different wine, there was a menu and a 50% discount was available to those who were on a package. Not sure what that meant or how overpriced the wine list was since I drank lots of the house wine (served by the bottle). Having been to the Moulin Rouge in Paris, I know that the prices there for champagne were about 5 times the going price elsewhere! After a little while, the show began. There were three couples and an older gentlemen. At first, the guys danced alone and then the ladies joined them. It was a very good show and the time passed quickly. Afterwards, they gave us a certificate and several minutes to shop before boarding the bus back to the hotel. We were the first to be dropped off so I was happy about that. If/When I return to Buenos Aires, I will probably go to another show, but I am glad that I saw the Complejo show. It was a very good introduction to the tango.
