I arranged beforehand to stay one week, then somewhere else; next time, I'll stay here for the entire trip. The hotel is beautiful, with a sort of art deco elegance that continues to please. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was fine if a trifle small. There was adequate shelf and hanging space for our clothes.

The staff was superb. They ALL were consistently friendly and helpful. They made reservations for us, called cabs, helped with our luggage (the airline lost ours for two days), suggested restaurants, etc., etc. Cant say too much good about them.

The tango lessons are held in the early evening, on the first floor of the hotel, and they do a remarkable job of catering to both novices and intermediates. We had taken lessons for over a year, and knew our way around the floor, but we learned a lot and were very pleased with the quality of the instructors, some of whom brought along an interpreter because they spoke no English.

The neighborhood is shabby, but I'm told that it has become very expensive and is on the way to becoming gentrified. In any case, I never felt unsafe, even walking home after dinner late at night. All
of the streets were well lit, and there was always both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. There are many excellent restaurants nearby, as well as a laundry and (very important) two fine gelaterias!

Breakfast at the hotel was a very large buffet with eggs and prosciutto, several different medialunas and sweet breads, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juices. Too satisfying for my waistline.

Bottom line= my wife and I will definitely return.

what a fab place- the decor is stunning and the staff English speaking and super helpful. The location is great right in the heart of San Telmo- dont miss the Sur Bar but negotiate the entrance fee.
The rooms are smallish and expensive by BA standards but worth it I think

Nice decor, very expensive and very, very small rooms with no windows. No space for 2 people, there was no room for the luggage; impossible to move around. Very pretty, yes, but it does not work as a hotel room. Chek out time at 10:00 AM.!! What nerve. The four of us
had 2 rooms and did not like the accomodations. We moved out; found another hotel for our sanity. M.Baier, Washington, DC.

located in an adjoining building. They only opened the suites in October 2006 and I have to say that they are a joy. Ours comprised two large rooms; a good size bathroom with a jacuzi bath and shower over; two large windows, a huge bed and two very small balconies, (not big enough to walk out on). The suite was furnished to a very high standard and came with fresh flowers, a bowl of fruit, dressing gowns and slippers; really all the comforts of home, plus air conditioning throughout the building.
The building itself contains three proper dance floors on one of which the nightly tango class takes place. The classes plus the milongas are provided by the hotel and included in the basic price-you only have drinks to pay for as an extra.
We did most of the classes through the week and I think improved to an extent, at least I hope we did. The teachers were excellent and coped with some experienced dancers and always some complete beginners. Also, one night Hector the hotel owner took the class and in my opinion moved it along to another dimension. All ther teachers coped well with our inability to speak much in the way of Spanish. We also used one of the dance floors to practise during the day, (ballroom and latin) at no extra charge and we were provided with a sound system.
The hotel itself is beautifully furnished and decorated and very comfortable.
There is a sun terrace on the roof and a small pool. It also has internet, (at no charge) for guest use.
It is situated in San Telmo which is not one of the most upmarket areas although we walked out to dinner at various restaurants every night without without any problems at all. In fact everyone we met was friendly and hospitable. There is also good sightseeing and open air tango, (on Sundays) in San Telmo.
One of the best things about the Dandi are the staff-my wife wrote in the visitors book that she would like to take them all home with her, and that about sums it up, friendly, fun and with good English skills.
We really went for a holiday but the classes were an added and welcome addition.
I booked the whole holiday over the internet and contacted several hotels by e mail before making my choice. Leandro responded from the Dandi and was very helpful with information and suggestions.
We really did have a lovely time and hope one day to go back.

Dandi Royal is certainly a beautiful property. The mansion has an old-world charm that you do not see in more modern-chain hotels. Sure, the rooms are small, and many have no windows, but they are tastefully done and why would you spend much time in the hotel anyway?

Some negatives about the property were the constant bathroom flooding in our room and frequent power outages.

San Telmo is an interesting area for tourist-type activities, but at night lacks the high quality restaurants, cleanliness and relative safety of Palermo Hollywood & Soho.

Service was good at first with flowers for the ladies and champagne for the rooms. However, they failed to mention that tango lessons would be cancelled for the next two days (New Years and Day after). Kind of a downer, since that was a highlight of the hotel.

The most significant complaint was the billing process. Our travel partners thought they were overbilled for the room and alerted management upon departure. While looking up their bill, they determined that they had billed our friends correctly, but undercharged the other two rooms in our party. Subsequently, they decided to bill us for an additional day. The only reason they were alerted to this was our inquiry, We were all a little put off by this exercise.
