After over 3 weeks in Argentina we decided to spend the final 2 nights at the Mansion Dandi Royal as a final treat. Its marketing promises and unforgettable experience! Getting booked was a real issue with their poor English and my schoolboy Spanish, but eventually we were offered a package which looked good; flowers at the airport taxi in, champagne and fruit in your upgraded Royal Room. Yes initially we were impressed, beautifully renovated old house. We were shown a charming bijou room with a collecting vestibule to our bathroom onto the small viewing balcony, the only natural light to the rooms. After we moved in we realised it was a small dark noisy room, pretty but small. We did not get the Tango lessons included, but paid to see the Tango show, good but go down the road to Bar Sur for better atmosphere. A la Carte breakfast is a buffet with stale cereals and whoops no eggs today we ran out. There is a Roof top pool and empty Jacuzzi for the height lovers. The staff were indifferent but all polite, if ineffective.
On the second day we explored a few of the other rooms and realised our room was very small and was no way an upgrade. Yes when we asked and my partner speaks very passable Spanish suddenly there was lots of shoulder shrugging and no one available as it was the weekend. The beds are uncomfortable, I’m not sure what a 24 hours porter service does, though he did get us a cab once and we had no flowers, a few bits of fruits and bottle of local sparkling wine and a fight to get our cab to the airport home after waiting 45 minutes for it. I think we were unlucky.
So far they are refusing to even look at the package, we agreed to pay cash on departure but as they were unable to give us a bill or resolved any of our issues, it was agreed we should leave and let the manger deal with this. We are feeling aggrieved and conned by this hotel. Yes its charming but be very very clear about what you are getting. We offered to pay for what we got but so far they insist we pay the full price, by credit Card to a USA account but want to charge local taxes as well on top now! So be careful.

My partner and I stayed here may 2006 for my 30th Birthday. This was our first trip to Buenos Aires are were unsure what to expect. From Private pick up from the airport, champagne, flowers and music on arrival, lovely room, helpfull and friendly staff what more can you ask for. The private tango class were excellant however some of the open classes where difficult as my Spanish is very basic but there was usually some one there to try and translate. The only down side was that the meals in the half board option where a little basic and they seemed to struggle to do anything quickly but this was not an issue as we were there to relax and the staff where so good to us so this balanced this out. I cant recommend this hotel enough and I can wait to go back and visit. Hopefully in 2008!

We wanted a tango-centered vacation in Buenos Aires, and Mansion Dandi Royal was definitely an excellent choice. We were charmed by the hotel's architecture and antique furniture and appreciative of the modern, if small, bathroom. The entire staff - doormen, front desk, housekeeping and waitresses- was eager to please, and our limited Spanish posed no problem in communicating. The package which included breakfast and lunch at the hotel, group tango lessons and transportation to a different milonga every night and a bus tour of the city provided a wonderful introduction to Buenos Aires. We felt completely safe walking in the San Telmo neighborhood at night and enjoyed trying the many interesting restaurants in that area. We are recommending this hotel to all of our friends who enjoy dancing.

I arranged beforehand to stay one week, then somewhere else; next time, I'll stay here for the entire trip. The hotel is beautiful, with a sort of art deco elegance that continues to please. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was fine if a trifle small. There was adequate shelf and hanging space for our clothes.

The staff was superb. They ALL were consistently friendly and helpful. They made reservations for us, called cabs, helped with our luggage (the airline lost ours for two days), suggested restaurants, etc., etc. Cant say too much good about them.

The tango lessons are held in the early evening, on the first floor of the hotel, and they do a remarkable job of catering to both novices and intermediates. We had taken lessons for over a year, and knew our way around the floor, but we learned a lot and were very pleased with the quality of the instructors, some of whom brought along an interpreter because they spoke no English.

The neighborhood is shabby, but I'm told that it has become very expensive and is on the way to becoming gentrified. In any case, I never felt unsafe, even walking home after dinner late at night. All
of the streets were well lit, and there was always both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. There are many excellent restaurants nearby, as well as a laundry and (very important) two fine gelaterias!

Breakfast at the hotel was a very large buffet with eggs and prosciutto, several different medialunas and sweet breads, toast, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juices. Too satisfying for my waistline.

Bottom line= my wife and I will definitely return.

what a fab place- the decor is stunning and the staff English speaking and super helpful. The location is great right in the heart of San Telmo- dont miss the Sur Bar but negotiate the entrance fee.
The rooms are smallish and expensive by BA standards but worth it I think
