After over 3 weeks in Argentina we decided to spend the final 2 nights at the Mansion Dandi Royal as a final treat. Its marketing promises and unforgettable experience! Getting booked was a real issue with their poor English and my schoolboy Spanish, but eventually we were offered a package which looked good; flowers at the airport taxi in, champagne and fruit in your upgraded Royal Room. Yes initially we were impressed, beautifully renovated old house. We were shown a charming bijou room with a collecting vestibule to our bathroom onto the small viewing balcony, the only natural light to the rooms. After we moved in we realised it was a small dark noisy room, pretty but small. We did not get the Tango lessons included, but paid to see the Tango show, good but go down the road to Bar Sur for better atmosphere. A la Carte breakfast is a buffet with stale cereals and whoops no eggs today we ran out. There is a Roof top pool and empty Jacuzzi for the height lovers. The staff were indifferent but all polite, if ineffective.
On the second day we explored a few of the other rooms and realised our room was very small and was no way an upgrade. Yes when we asked and my partner speaks very passable Spanish suddenly there was lots of shoulder shrugging and no one available as it was the weekend. The beds are uncomfortable, I’m not sure what a 24 hours porter service does, though he did get us a cab once and we had no flowers, a few bits of fruits and bottle of local sparkling wine and a fight to get our cab to the airport home after waiting 45 minutes for it. I think we were unlucky.
So far they are refusing to even look at the package, we agreed to pay cash on departure but as they were unable to give us a bill or resolved any of our issues, it was agreed we should leave and let the manger deal with this. We are feeling aggrieved and conned by this hotel. Yes its charming but be very very clear about what you are getting. We offered to pay for what we got but so far they insist we pay the full price, by credit Card to a USA account but want to charge local taxes as well on top now! So be careful.
