This street used to make a duet with the calle Florida as the haet spot streetsin the downtown of Buenos Aires. Full of stores and street vendors and performers, they were fuzzy from early morning to late, very late at night, say 1 am. This year, the Florida was freed from the street vendors and performers, I guess for the sake of security against pickpockets and purse snatchers (loads and loads of them), but the result was that the Florida lost most of its charm and appeal, in these matters the lavalle now is alone. But this year I looked for some of the stores where I used to buy all sorts of odds and ends and they are also gone. I don't know if it's due to the Argentinian economic hardship, but anyway Lavalle street was still my favorite street for late at night purchases and dinner in its varied kinds of restaurants
