“A place I love to come back...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

Quite characteristic. Went there with my wife and had a late tango lesson and some good finger food. We enjoyed the ONDA and the fantastic performers from the young locals gathering after the lessons. A flag to put on your to do list in Buenos Aires.

“Great for sightseeing, not so good for lessons”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

It's too busy for lessons, but it's really quite nice to take in the local dancing scene. It's perfectly normal for dodgy-looking men to take younger women dancing, and everyone tends to have a good laugh at their expense. Tuesday is the main day, and is really the best day to go to La Catedral. Wine and food are reasonable, but the empanadas are better than the sandwiches.

Tip: It gets very, very hot here in the summertime. Dress appropriately for heat - do NOT dress up as it's quite a casual place where anything goes. Significantly better than Cafe Tortoni. There's a marginal fee to enter, but it's much less than you would pay in other tango halls. Also, although the dance lessons are tourist traps, you'll find more locals here than you will elsewhere.

“Fine Metropolitan Church”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

This fine metropolitan church is off to the side on centrally located Plaza de Mayo. We liked the fine Spanish architecture and the side chapels were delightfully quiet places of meditation. Walk up by the high altar; it's quite magnificent. The whole place shows the splendor that the founders of this country lavished on their most important church.

“Great place to see but avoid the tango classes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

I fully agree with the previous reviews on the originality and ambiance of the place. Deserves certainly the visit. However the classes get too much crowded with tourists that are more interested in having fun than learning the basics of tango. The result is quite bad as even if the teachers try their best you will keep bumping to the random guy/girl not much interested in dancing. Probably better to get there when the practica starts and to already know some basic steps in tango.

“Fun place to watch or try tango”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

This seemed like a very authentic place. We went with friends who live in Buenos Aires and watched dance lessons. It was very fun just to watch and have a drink. We left around 10 pm on a week night and there was a line out the door of people waiting to get in so go early!
