We chose the Palermo Solo district for its high quality eateries, cool bars, and the shopping (all of which are leagues ahead of the rest of BA - which is looking scruffy, charmless and sombre nowadays - unless of course you enjoy pavements strewn with dog mess, litter and graffiti everywhere!). Bo Bo Hotel cost us just shy of US$200 (inclusive of tax) per night for a 4 night stay including breakfast, which seemed like reasonable value compared to other boutique hotels in the district. I wish we had spent more and chosen an alternative. We stayed in the 'Art Deco' room, complete with its stained carpet, struggle to swing a big cat dimensions...oh, and the active building site outside the window (with drills etc going hammer and tongs from 0900 to about 1700 everyday day - no associated discount was offered of course!). The Hotel boasts a comprehensive continental breakfast - but doesn't serve it! Despite 2 requests for the Cheese and Ham platter (the staff all speak excellent English by the way) we were brought instead 3 overcooked mini croissants and a scone!! After 45 minutes at the table, we headed off into BA, having decided not to avail ourselves of the inclusive breakfast after all. The concierge/front of house seemed friendly enough on our arrival, and gave us some local tips and bearings, and recommended (and booked for us) the 'obligatory' off site Tango Show + dinner experience. We were really looking forward to this. However, once collected by a minibus we started chatting to 2 other holiday couples en route the restaurant and it was clear that we had been charged significantly more for the package than they had. The "authentic Argentine steak dinner" we were served ahead of the Tango Show was, put simply, inedible. The other couples, and a table of 4 Australians thought similar and all left their lousy food. We can't comment on the quality of the Show because after the waitor in so many words told us 'that's what tourists get', we cut our losses and left - returning to Soho for some less exploited fun. On reporting our experience to the concierge at Bo Bo, he was absolutely indifferent, adding to the 'we've got your money, so tough' flavour of the stay. Outwith the aforementioned issues, Bo Bo has a decent enough cocktail bar, and a comparatively large dining area (which remained largely souless and deserted during our stay - if you do choose Bo Bo as a destination then I would certainly advise you not to dine there when there are some real gems within short walking distance). In sum, we wanted to love BA and Hotel Bo Bo. In time, we kind of 'got' BA (but parallels with Paris/Madrid etc are a real insult to those Euro centres of chic and style); but Bo Bo was a white elephant. It isn't the boutique respite it pretends to be, so stay elsewhere unless your budget or availability really force your hand.
