We were recommended the Art Hotel by our travel agent after finding that the BoBo Hotel was fully booked. From the website it looked in a good location, beautifully decorated and just the sort of boutique hotel myself and my boyfriend like.
The good points - the reception staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, accommodating all our requests and making helpful suggestions. The building has been beautifully designed so that the communial areas, centred on the art gallery space on the ground floor, feel very light, airy and bright. The location is good for seeing the sights of Recoleta and the rest of the city. On the first day we were upgraded to a King Size bedroom, which was a good size and we were impressed by the overall finish and quality for the price. The room faced the road and Buenos Aires is a noisy city 24/7 so if you are a light sleeper, request a room away from the road.
Down sides - When we returned to the hotel after a trip out of the city we were given a Queen Size room. This was much smaller, darker and only had two small windows looking into an internal light shaft. Despite the fact it was late September (spring), the room was ridiculously hot and the airconditioning didn't seem to do anything at all. It was like sleeping in an oven. The bathroom was a bit faded and small and no matter how hard you tried to stop it, the shower covered the floor with water as soon as it was turned on. This was not the smallest size of room the hotel offers yet it felt dark, claustraphobic and depressing.
For our last two nights in Buenos Aires we managed to transfer to the Home Hotel in Palermo and would highly recommend it. Although slightly more expensive, it is in another league to the Art Hotel, which we were more than happy to leave.
