I stayed here for 3 weeks (8 bed dorm) while studying a Spanish course at the nearby Ibero Spanish School. Hostel Km0 is excellent in every respect.
Staff: The staff are friendly, bilingual (at the least), and helpful. They make sure you know where everything is when you first arrive, and can always give advice on where to go or things to do in the city. The front desk is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere is the highlight of this hostel. It's big enough to have social activity, but not so big that you feel lost. I spoke to pretty much every single person who stayed at the hostel during my stay, and could recognise them all if I saw them in the living room or terrace (though I didn't always remember their names!). Km0 isn't a party hostel, but it isn't dead either - there's lots of activity. One night we had a band playing on the terrace, another we had a big barbecue that felt very much like a large family dinner. And of course, if you get on well with fellow travellers you can always decide to do various activities together. You have lockers in your room and I locked stuff away as a standard precaution, but I never felt that I had to worry about theft.
Location: Centrally located, the hostel is within walking distance of Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo and the shopping area around Florida street. Avenida de Mayo and the huge Avenida 9 de Julio are very close. Both offer restaurants and cafes. Many buses pass by outside the hostel, or very close (including the number 8 from EZE airport - 5.50 pesos. Much cheaper than the 200 pesos you pay for a taxi!). Various metro lines have stations nearby. The area is also quite safe, so far as I can tell.
Cleanliness: No complaints here. The whole place is cleaned top to bottom every day. Toilets and showers were always in a good state.
Facilities: Well equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, all the pots you can need. Could do with a sharp knife, though! Comfortable and well sized living area with TV. Balcony and terrace with barbecue. Never had to wait for a shower or a toilet. The living room as air con, the rooms have fans. It can get hot at night.
Value: Standard price for a hostel in Buenos Aires. Very slightly cheaper than the nearby Millhouse. A lot cheaper than a hotel, obviously, and far more social!
Minor complaints: breakfast is very basic (expected at this price point) and the beds are a bit wobbly (though never in danger of collapse).
