We have just stayed 5 nights at the Claridge Hotel and can quite easily say it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in……however, ours may have been a very unusual experience……
On arrival we were upgraded to a suite. Not just any suite – a penthouse suite called The Kent on the 14th floor.
We had a hallway, dining room, lounge, large opulent bedroom, a terrace area (with fake grass!) and the piece de resistance: an out of this world bathroom with marble and gold fitments and a sunken double Jacuzzi!
The shower was the size of a single bed and the bathroom itself was bigger than most standard double bedrooms.
We have no idea why we were upgraded, it’s a mystery!
Our roof terrace overlooked all of Buenos Aires and out across the River Plate.
The quality of the furnishings was superb as were the masses of fluffy towels, the deep pile bathrobes and monogrammed slippers.
(This is not a wind up, this is all true!)
We had a Fax machine, a cell phone for our personal use whilst in BA, a widescreen TV and DVD player and a music centre. We also had a range of glassware from which to drink our water!
There was air conditioning which we could programme in each room and extensive lighting options. The windows were all double glazed and we had patio doors to the terrace.
I don’t suppose in our lives we will ever again stay in anywhere as impressive but hey we enjoyed it while we were there.
The breakfasts were wonderful – especially the unhealthy options which were truly delicious. The only snag was the chairs were so big and heavy to pull up to the table (that really sounds like a sad complaint!)
There is an ‘alternative breakfast’ in the health centre which we tried one morning – and even that had Danish pastries on offer.
There is free internet access to all guests which is a real bonus.
The pool is lovely, a little oasis of tranquility in a bustling but elegant city. There are plenty of sun loungers and towels are supplied.
Just have a look along the corridor at the number of top sports stars who have stayed at the Claridge – especially tennis players.
The Hotel will lend adaptors so if you are traveling from the UK bring a European adaptor and then it will all work fine.
The situation of the Claridge is excellent – very convenient for the shops on Florida and for walking to Casa Rosada, the Cathedral, the Obelisk and Puerto Madero.
It’s also handy for travelling across the River Plate by Buquebus to Uruguay for the day.
It’s quite a long way to Retiro or Recoleta and a taxi would most probably be needed.
It is one block to the magnificent Galleria Pacificos which are well worth a visit just to look.
We LOVED Buenos Aires and we loved staying at The Claridge. We would recommend it to anyone. The staff were helpful, efficient and professional and it is clean and impressive all round.
We would also recommend the Tango Show at Carlos Gardel, it was a fantastic night out (and again we mysteriously got upgraded to the VIP area!) and the trip out to the pampas was also an excellent day out.
