We have just stayed 5 nights at the Claridge Hotel and can quite easily say it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in……however, ours may have been a very unusual experience……

On arrival we were upgraded to a suite. Not just any suite – a penthouse suite called The Kent on the 14th floor.

We had a hallway, dining room, lounge, large opulent bedroom, a terrace area (with fake grass!) and the piece de resistance: an out of this world bathroom with marble and gold fitments and a sunken double Jacuzzi!
The shower was the size of a single bed and the bathroom itself was bigger than most standard double bedrooms.

We have no idea why we were upgraded, it’s a mystery!

Our roof terrace overlooked all of Buenos Aires and out across the River Plate.

The quality of the furnishings was superb as were the masses of fluffy towels, the deep pile bathrobes and monogrammed slippers.
(This is not a wind up, this is all true!)

We had a Fax machine, a cell phone for our personal use whilst in BA, a widescreen TV and DVD player and a music centre. We also had a range of glassware from which to drink our water!

There was air conditioning which we could programme in each room and extensive lighting options. The windows were all double glazed and we had patio doors to the terrace.

I don’t suppose in our lives we will ever again stay in anywhere as impressive but hey we enjoyed it while we were there.

The breakfasts were wonderful – especially the unhealthy options which were truly delicious. The only snag was the chairs were so big and heavy to pull up to the table (that really sounds like a sad complaint!)
There is an ‘alternative breakfast’ in the health centre which we tried one morning – and even that had Danish pastries on offer.

There is free internet access to all guests which is a real bonus.

The pool is lovely, a little oasis of tranquility in a bustling but elegant city. There are plenty of sun loungers and towels are supplied.
Just have a look along the corridor at the number of top sports stars who have stayed at the Claridge – especially tennis players.

The Hotel will lend adaptors so if you are traveling from the UK bring a European adaptor and then it will all work fine.

The situation of the Claridge is excellent – very convenient for the shops on Florida and for walking to Casa Rosada, the Cathedral, the Obelisk and Puerto Madero.
It’s also handy for travelling across the River Plate by Buquebus to Uruguay for the day.

It’s quite a long way to Retiro or Recoleta and a taxi would most probably be needed.
It is one block to the magnificent Galleria Pacificos which are well worth a visit just to look.

We LOVED Buenos Aires and we loved staying at The Claridge. We would recommend it to anyone. The staff were helpful, efficient and professional and it is clean and impressive all round.

We would also recommend the Tango Show at Carlos Gardel, it was a fantastic night out (and again we mysteriously got upgraded to the VIP area!) and the trip out to the pampas was also an excellent day out.

We spent 4 nights at The Claridge and really enjoyed the character of the building, the excellent central location and the very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was quiet, well equipped and comfortable ( and big enough, we don't understand the obsession with size that often features in negative reviews ). We particularly enjoyed the hotel bar facility - relaxed atmosphere, great service and unusually reasonable prices which ensure it is popular with guests. We would strongly recommend this hotel.

We have just returned from a one week vacation in Buenos Aires. I had read some negative reviews of this hotel on this website but we had nothing but good service. The room was nice and big - I know many people have said the rooms are small. It was very clean and although we overlooked a very busy road the double glazing ensured that we were not disturbed by the noise from the street below. The breakfast was very good with a nice variety of the healthy and the not so healthy! and the bar staff were excellent. My only criticism would be that the towels in the bathroom were changed twice a day - not very ecologically friendly. I guess a lot of people would not see this as a bad thing! Beds were turned down everynight and the staff all spoke excellent English. I would definately recommend this hotel to others.

This hotel is located in the Microcenter. It is a half a block from a shopping strip, Calle de Florida and 2 blocks from
Galleria Pacifica. Which is great in my opinion. However, I heard there were other better quality shopping areas, which we were unable to visit. The pool is great and they have a spa and there is a little buffet that is open all day to those using the spa and pool, which I thought was an excellent touch. There are waiters by the pool. Although one had to fight for a lounge chair. I didn't mind because it was so hot, I stayed in the water.

The negatives are: there are no restaurants or bars nearby. You have to take a cab to la Recolletta or Puerto Madero, Palermo, etc. There is a bit of a shady element on Calle Florida at night...but it is nothing out of the ordinary for a city center that has street performers (very cool btw) singing and dancing...just watch your belongings.

this is a good choice to stay in BA. Have a wonderful trip!

My wife and I stayed here on two separate occasions: - 29th December 2006 to 2nd January 2007, and again between 5th January and 11th January 2007.

After reading all of the great reviews that this hotel has been given on this web-site, our expectations were very high. Unfortunately, in our opinion it did not live up to expectation. Do not get me wrong, this is a great hotel for the money. We just felt that some of the previous reviews were over the top.

Positives, well the location is certainly great. The staff are very professional and polite (especially one of the bell-boys whose names escapes us, but he lives in a suburb called Olivos, if you happen to meet him). Paulo the concierge was also great. The breakfast is far superior to many other quality hotels in BA. The pool and sun-deck are fantastic, but you have to get there early to secure a sun lounger. The complimentary pick-up from the airport is most welcome, but many hotels in BA now offer this service.

Negatives, well the first room we stayed in, nr 803, had just about the thinnest walls you could imagine. Not to mention that you could hear even the slighest sound from the neighbouring bathroom. Our second room, it was either 613 or 615 (can't remember) was next to the lift, so we didn't have a neighbouring bathroom and therefore no sound problem. Both rooms we stayed in were small, with very little space to put your suitcase. The closets were also small as somebody else has mentioned. However, the thing that annoyed me most was the lack of in-room safe - this is the one thing we want most in a hotel room, and is the reason why we would normally book at least a four star hotel. You would of course expect this to be standard in a hotel that advertises itself as five star!

Whilst checking out from our first visit to this hotel, we asked whether the complimentary pick-up service would be available for our second arrival four days later. We were informed that it would be. And sure enough, when we arrived back in BA at the domestic airport, a car was wating for us. However, when we checked out for the second time, the hotel tried to charge us 50 pesos for the pick-up, stating that it wasn't complimentary. If it hadn't been complimentary, we wouldn't have asked for it, as the same journey in a taxi costs just 18 pesos. After a few minutes of arguing, the hotel did agree to delete this charge from my invoice.

We travel to BA frequently as my wife is Argentine. For a similar price, we would recommend the Sheraton Libertador, which is just as well located being just 2 blocks away, and is not on such a dark back-street as the Claridge. The Sheraton Libertador has larger rooms which are also quieter.
