Our stay in the Claridge Hotel was excellent from the time we arrived until we left. We finished our trip in Argentina in the Claridge following a recommendation from a friend, and we were not disappointed. At the start of our stay we stayed in Palermo, which we also loved, but we found the location of the Claridge to be better. You feel more in the city and there is a lot going on. You are also very close to the port.

The hotel has a lovely old world feel to it but with excellent facilities. It does not have the american chain feel to it.

Our room was fantastic, with excellent bed and facitilities. The breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of everything.

The staff were fantastic - the concierge was always very helpful with tips on where to go for dinner or any types of shopping. The pool bar staff were also excellent.

The pool was fabulous, located on the 2nd floor and a hide away from the hussle and bustle of down town. The food and drinks at the pool were also excellent.

Great location, just off Calle Florida - although itself largely a cultural vacuum - other areas of the city can be reached easily on foot as this is a central area.

The rooms are not huge but are comfortable and to European visitors will not seem cramped. Breakfast was excellent in choice and quality. Alicia the concierge was extremely helpful in organising restaurant and tango show bookings and offering more general advice on what not to miss.

The official photographs of the hotel do of course offer the best perspective - while the hotel is an attractive building it is not in the cleanest area and the setting for the swimming pool is not as idyllic as the pictures show - but do not let this put you off staying at the Claridge, which I highly recommend.

We spent 3 nights in Feb. 2008 at this hotel and were very disappointed. The bathroom was a ridiculous size for a 5 star hotel, and it was impossible to turn on the shower without either being attacked by cold water or very hot water. It took 5 phone calls and 2 hours to obtain an iron and another phone call to obtain an ironing board. After 5 requests and 2 days our room was cleaned and the mini bar refilled. We asked a very unfriendly and rude female concierge to make a reservation for us at a restaurant and we had to ask whether it had been successful as she had no intention of telling us.More seriously, the day before we arrived a group of people sitting in the bar had their hand luggage stolen, yet we saw lots of luggage unattended in the hall.
There is no way this hotel deserves 5 stars.

  • Liked — The bedroom and bed were very good and the position of the hotel excellent.
  • Disliked — Bathroom and the service.

On our way to and from a cruise to Antarctica, my husband (who uses a wheelchair) and I stayed at the Claridge, a very centrally located hotel in the heart of Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, the washrooms in the rooms are not accessible to people who use wheelchairs. The public rooms are accessible but this isn't much consolation. We managed but it was very difficult and for most wheelchair users, it would be impossible. We booked this hotel through Expedia and were more disappointed with it than with the hotel itself. Otherwise, the Claridge is quite pleasant.
