The room was fairly large and quite clean, and the bathroom was immaculate. The breakfast was just ok, the bread awful, and the breakfast staff less than helpful. There was some confusion when we checked in on the the number of rooms reserved (both of us had our own room), and we were told we would be charged for the extra room. The receptionist said we would have to work it out with the tour company, but we told her it was the hotel's mistake and their responsibility, and they did get it straightened out by the next morning. The area around the hotel is somewhat seedy, and the pedestrian shopping street, Florida, is very crowded with very poor shopping except for the Galerias Pacifico. However, you can walk to most areas and that is a plus.

This hotel is located in the Microcentro district, approximately 1 KM from the seaport, and can be walked, but with nighttime traffic, it is recommended to take a cab. The hotel staff was very courteous when we arrived during the night, and all the reception staff speaks English. I was impressed when I walked through the door at the cleanliness of the lobby (plus a doorman at the front).

The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had a Standard room and it had basic amenities, such as alarm clock, electronic safes, internet connection (for a fee), and full length mirrors (my wife enjoyed that). It had AC, as well as push out windows if you want fresh air. Outside noise was not much of a problem, but I would still recommend ear plugs to light sleepers. The bathroom had all toiletries and a hair dryer. The hotel also has a turn down service at night (served with chocolate), and the television selections include multiple English selections, including BBC, British CNN, and dubbed US programs.

The hotel has an array of services for guests. There is free internet available in the lobby 24 hours a day, and the hotel staff can make arrangements on any tour you wish to go in town (and also get you tickets to a Boca Juniors or River Plate game if you’re up for one). Additionally, if you are taking an overnight trip to another location in Argentina, you can leave your excess luggage with them without charge. The breakfast is recommended and offers a full selection of eggs, meats, coffee, yogurt and pastries.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I think the staff was the best part – the most friendly and helpful that I met during our South American trip. Also, take their advice on restaurants in the area – they recommended the al Carbon three blocks west from the hotel and it was one of the best meals we had on our trip. Additionally, the hotel is walking distance from the Calle Florida shopping area, Plaza de Mayo, as well as the Alem Subte (metro) station, giving you access to the rest of the city. For the price you pay (about 120 USD in OCT 2007), this has to be the best deal in Buenos Aires.

For the location, downtown, this is a great value and good quality. If you don't like the busy, well littered, BA microcentro for shopping and eating, then go elsewhere. My first time here and it was very good.
Local contact got a low rate of 106.00/ night; room was clean, comfy, well lit, bath was very clean and all adequate in size. I preferred the other side of Av Cordoba where it is closer to Plaza San Martin, which I find less grimy. [Sol Melia BA is a step up and nearer to San Martin.] This side of the avenue has other pedestrian streets which are fun to stroll. Numerous restaurants and so I make a point not to eat at hotel. Hotel restaurant/bar is really quaint.
Staff all pretty friendly over my 4 nights. Main issue was my lost reservation due to a system failure the very day my reservation was made by phone. Staff gets a 3.5 star rating overall. Good but not Marriott/Ritz / Hyatt/ Alvear.
As I am there for business, I need the basics and can tolerate other things. Wireless was weak in room so the lobby or brkfast room was better choice; not so convenient if you feel like relaxing. Not a big shopper but good browsing/buying and eating all nearby at Florida St. Go to Poppy's for leather.
IF I were spending a full weekend or vacation, I would go to Recoleta or Palermo that have more classy feel. Overall, the hotel was very good and great price for location.

After having read the reviews of the Amerian here and seen a recommendation for it in a guide book we decided to use it as our base for four nights in Buenos Aires. What an excellent desicion! The location was superb - we could walk to Calle Florida, Plaza San Martin, Plaza de Mayo, and Puerto Madero. For anywhere else we wanted to go, taxis were easy to find and the rides were short and inexpensive. The rooms were large and comfortable. The only downside was the shower which just had a glass wall across half of it and very strong water pressure which meant when we first turned it on we showered the whole bathroom! We soon figured out how to do it, but it was also a bit tricky getting in and out of it with the wall there. Otherwise everything was great. The breakfasts were excellent with lots of different choices and the hotel staff were quite helpful. There was also free internet in the lobby with three computers and we were usualy able to find a time when we could get on one of them - very helpful when we had to change plans at the last minute. Last, but not least, we had a little balcony off our room that was nice for going out to check the weather before leaving for the day or evening. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a reasonably priced, comfortable, convenient location in Buenos Aires.

We stayed there one night in February. The room was large and comfortable. The staff were very helpful.

The location was not especially good unless you came to do power shopping. It's very close to Florida St. The hotel has large tour groups that take up a lot of the lobby as they are checking in.

There isn't much of a restaurant and you have to walk a number of blocks to get to a restaurant. The area is commercial and not residential so it's not that pleasant to walk in at night. The price was good but I would rather stay in the hotel in Recoleta where it is more pleasant to walk.
