This was one of my favourite museums. The art was fresh and inspiring, and the temporary exhibition of a Rio painter's work was fab. If you go on Wednesdays, it's half-price :-)

This is a lovely building with Latin American Art mostly from the early 20th century, and two other exhibition halls. It also contains an art and architecture library and an excellent restaurant as well as the museum shop. We saw a spectacular exhibition based on photography but containing installations using video and some unusual photographic techniques, the work of Oscar Muñoz. It's amazing, and finishes on Feb 4th 2013. Tip: if you plan to eat there after looking around, book a table on your way in.

Enjoyable and can be completed leisurely in a couple of hours. In a well-designed building in a pleasant neighborhood. The permanent collection is of high quality, though somewhat small in number.

The building is magnificent (so is the cafe) but it's the modern Latin American art that's breathtaking. Some of the work is so haunting that the images will be forever in our minds.
