“Found the whole thing macabre and boring”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Aside from Eva Peron's tomb didn't have much historical or intellectual impact. Also interesting that she is buried there as this particular cemetery stands for everything she was against. Aesthetically feels way over crowded as if the rich/elite of BA are competing with one another even after death -trying to keep up with the Jones'. Recoleta itself is a beautiful area to walk and a half hour or so in the cemetery if in the area is something to consider.

“Enjoyable even without a tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

We weren't going to do this, but had time left over and decided to enjoy the beautiful day outdoors. After visiting Recoleta I would say this is a site not to be missed. Whether you do your homework and/or have a guide, or choose to simply buy a map at the entrance and explore (as we did), it's a not-to-be-missed site. We found it interesting that many of the mausoleums had functioning (but locked) glass doors that revealed a casket, topped with framed photos and recently placed flowers. So, in addition to seeing incredible art adorning many of the monuments, you also get a taste of the culture's attitude toward death. Make sure you take a camera!

“not at all morbid”

This is a vast cemetery, where you can find Eve Peron buried. Excellent guided tours if you are interested.

“Highlight of BA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

This is an impressive cemetery located in the heart of the city. Was the highlight of my trip to BA which is short on attractions. Eva Peron's grave is what most people go to see but there are many ornate tombs with impressive architecture.

“You must see this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Our tour guide took us to Recoleta Cemetary and it was just astounding. Yes, it might be a bit creepy to tour a cemetery but the sculpture alone makes it worth the visit. The ornate buildings are impressive and the personal touches to many of the mausoleums is really something. This is a wonderful free thing to do while in Buenos Aires.
