The lobby is nice; the rest of the place is showing its age. The breakfast buffet is acceptable; the dining room is clean and pleasant and the food is always available.
Watch out for the 10 am checkout. They don't warn you.
Much more Serious! No smoke detectors in the rooms. No fire evacuation plan posted. The fire stairways have only wooden swinging doors at the entrance on each floor. It is a perfect chimney and there is no other way out. Housekeeping equipment is kept in the stairway.
Room doors have no security chain, deadbolt, lock or peep hole. Room keys are like housekeys and easily reproducible.
Want to sleep? The parking lot behind the hotel rings an alarm to warn pedestrians of emerging cars. This goes on until 2 am or later.
The carpets need cleaning.
I can't honestly recommend this hotel. My stay was May 16 to May 25, 2005

Rochester Classic Hotel was totally remodelled and the lobby is not longer as the pictures shown in this comment (please check our website for further information). Morover, carpets were removed from bedrooms.
Check in and check out hours are informed during check in and they are also posted at the front desk as well as in our room directory.
All rooms are equiped with smoke detectors and emergency exits are clearly indicated.
Finally, our housekeeping offices are located on each floor and they are always closed, following our standards. Therefore, all equipment is kept safe.

This is a good hotel, with a lovely lobby, good bedrooms, well service, very friendly and professional staff. We have been twice in this hotel, four days (before going to Puntadel Este) and later when we came back. The first four days they gave us two double bedrooms that where in their old building, they were ok, a little small, but ok. The last days they gave us two large double bedrooms, very nice both of them. We like and enjoy our stay.

Staying here almost ruined our holiday it is truly appalling hotel & the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
The hotel has a great location (but on a very busy street) the first room we had was at the front of the hotel, had only single glazed windows therefore subject to continuous traffic noise throughout the night. Having arrived after a long flight we initially accepted the room despite the very dirty, stained carpet. However after going out, on returning it was apparent that the bathroom had a “plumbing” problem, water was leaking from one of the pipes & was inches deep on the floor & had reached the bathroom door & starting to leak out into the bedroom. We asked to change rooms & eventually shown one which was even dirtier than the first, we refused this room on the understanding that we would be allocated a “very special room” the next day when it was available. No guest should be allocated this room until the problem was resolved, but some unfortunate was given it after we vacated.
Rooms are situated in 2 different blocks & reached by 2 different lifts – one side appeared to be more salubrious than the other, however the hotel informed us that there was no “new wing”. Our “special room” which we assumed to be the best in the hotel was an improvement but there was no means of switching the air conditioning off or down, so it was on constantly over night & was very noisy, fortunately we travel with ear plugs so did manage to get some sleep.
We can not understand how this hotel ever achieved 4 star status, it is 2 star at the very most. All the rooms we saw had peeling, flaking paint on the ceilings, the bathroom suites were cracked, chipped & flaking; (judging by the colour scheme installed 1960-70s) in the second room the bathroom basin was falling off the wall & only resting on the pedestal. Cleaning throughout the hotel is very half hearted, we never saw any cleaning staff anywhere during our stay, I split some face powder on the second day & it was still there the day we left.
The breakfast choice was satisfactory but the flies crawling over the food a little off putting.
This hotel was so bad that on the first night we attempted to change hotels but were unable to find anywhere that could accommodate us for the total length of our stay (in any price category). So we were stuck with squalor. The hotels we visited in a similar pric catergory looked far better (& cleaner) than this, these included Grand King , Claridge (this looked very nice) & Castlelar

Unfortunately, passengers stayed at Rochester Classic Hotel a long time ago when the property had not yet been remodeled. Rochester Classic has been remodeled and nowadays, all our areas are decorated with a classic style (as the pictures show on our website). Rooms do not have carpets but wood floors.
Our hotel is located in downtown Buenos Aires which allows our guests to freely move in the city simply walking some blocks to get to the most important spots of the city. It is in one of the most popular districts for tourists. We have noise proof windows in our rooms which contribute to reduce the noise coming from the downtown area.
The buffet breakfast offers different kinds of breads and pastries, hot dishes, fruits, cereals and there is also a chef available during the entire breakfast service to prepare pancakes, and fried and scrambled eggs on the spot.
We do have sanitary programs carried out in order not to have insects in our property.
All our staff is trained on an ongoing basis which allows us to deliver an adequate service and to exceed guest expectations. Rooms, after cleaned, are checked by housekeeping supervisors and only then are ready to be assigned to guests.

It was our first trip to SA and we choose Rochester after sourcing around. The hotel is ideally located in central of town district and within walking distance to many shopping areas such as Florida street etc.Nearby the hotel you could find many restaurant and the prices are all very reasonably priced.Taking a taxi to places of interest would not be expensive and we went around to La Boca , Recoleta and a few restaurant to have our meal outside the hotel. Our first 3 nights, we were put in the old wing and the bed was of a queen size and the room was a bit small for our luggage. We then went to Iguazu for 3 days and on our returned stay we were put in the new wing. This is much better and with double bed and plenty of space to move around. Ask for such room if you need to book with this hotel !! The breakfast was marvelous with plenty of spread and you must be there early and they usually run out of butter. The restaurant in the hotel was not too bad and we took our dinner there. In Buenos Aires , beef is the main item served and for a whole week , it was nothing but steak for dinner which was not our usual meal in our country.
