To start off a two week vacation in Buenos Aires I stayed in the Hilton for a few nights. I chose the Hilton because I'm a frequent business traveller and I had a bunch of "points" to use. I knew nothing about the hotel and nothing about the location. Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel wasn't very big but it was very stylish. I really liked the open-ness of the lobby and atrium. The architecture was interesting and gave you the feeling of a much larger hotel.
As for the room, I found it top notch. The bed was extremely comfortable and the down comforters made you want to stay there even after the alarm went off. The bathroom was very large and well appointed. My room was very clean upon arrival and the daily maid service returned the room to nearly perfect condition.
Downstairs they had a coffee bar where I drank too many Cafe con Leche as well as a breakfast buffet that had an excellent selection for starting the day. I didn't eat any other meals there so I can't review the food.
As for location, it was perfect to start out my exploration of Buenos Aires. The hotel is located in Puerto Madero which is across from the center of town. From here I was able to venture by foot to the Plaza de Mayo, the presidents house and all the places central. A short walk away was San Telmo where I was able to explore the antique shops and find delicious foods at local bakeries and cafes.
Back at the hotel, the area surrounding is a recent update to the city. It's an exclusive area with lots of bars and restaurants adoring the now defunct port. In addition to the street bridge right outside the front door, an amazingly designed swing bridge allows you to cross over the water in style. The best restaurant I found in all of my stay was just across the bridge. It was a Parilla (steak house) called Cabana de los lilas. I'll write another review on that.
As for safety, the area around the hotel is very safe. It seems that every 100 meters or so you see a port guard hanging out making sure everything is going ok. I walked the streets around the hotel and the port at all hours coming and going and always felt secure.
I would recommend the Hilton in Buenos Aires for either personal or business stay if you are looking for a hotel environment that is on the upscale side of things.
