After missing our flight connection in Buenos Aires and Antarctic cruise, we needed a last-minute hotel reservation. Our bad fortune turned around once we arrived at the very friendly Hilton Buenos Aires. Even though they didn't have a room ready for us at check in, we were given complementary tickets for drinks. Our desk clerk personally came to us in the lounge with all necessary paperwork and keys (it was a very short wait). We requested information for a city tour, and they arrainged everything for us (three hour tour $20US each).
Our 5th floor room was big, clean, quiet, large walk-in closet, stocked desk and had a water view. We were so pleased and grateful to salvage our trip via the Hilton Buenos Aires. We rented bikes from the hotel and enjoyed riding in the large nature reserve just two short blocks away (bike rental $25Argentine Pesos, 3 hours --about $8.35 US each).
Resturants are plentiful along the nearby romantic waterfront. In their summer you will spy locals locking lips while sitting on the benches. Who can resist the lights from the buildings and harbor, tall sailboats, music, warmth of the night? It is also very safe to stroll along there with the one you love.
Back to the Hilton. Everyone spoke some English (some very well). The friendly staff at the 5th floor business center remembered our names after the first visit. There are about six computers available there (plus one more on the 8th floor),
first 15 minutes free.
The breakfast buffet at the hotel was a pleasent surprise!! I am a Vegan and was thrilled with all the variety: fresh fruits & berries, tofu, nuts, juices--- it was fantastic! My husband, not Vegan, enjoyed the smoked trout, salmon, and cheese selections. Much thought went into the large, and tempting bread and pastry area. Naturally they offer omletes to order, scrambled eggs, sausage, etc.
Sadly, we needed to return home. But because our flight was not until 10:30pm they held our bags while we went off to the museum and dinner. Even though this wasn't in our plans--- it turned into a great trip after all.
