Overall Faena is a wonderful experience. It truly is more than a hotel. I think it will end up being one of the best hotels I end up staying at, but not nearly the most expensive.
The rooms and everything else are very clean, as you'd expect.
The location at Puerto Madero is fine. I wouldn't personally stay at Puerto Madero by choice or to discover the neighborhood... but the area is nice and clean and safe and has a couple of nice boutiques and shops. But it's not the BA I came to discover. Having said that, we found taxis easy, accessible and cheap and Palermo is only 20-30 minutes away by taxi (traffic dependent). San Telmo is a brief stroll away.
The rooms are equipped as you'd expect, to the standard you'd expect. I quite liked the styling, but nothing outrageous to mention. The glass bathrooms are interesting, but don't have to be as revealing as they sound, due to extensive curtains.
The service across the board is extremely professional and helpful without being outwardly friendly or particularly pro-active. Not a negative, just their style. Staff are very knowledgable about BA, as you'd expect. There are a lot of staff, so its never difficult to get help.
We got a deal through Jetsetter (I think), which was very reasonable relatively... but we were there in shoulder season.
I think the whole experience is what makes the hotel special. The pool is amazing, the breakfast room is fantastic, the cocktail bar is perfect. The restaurant El Bistro had great food (and steak) and superb wine list and sommelier (I think he has subsequently left).
I will remember Faena forever, it's a magic place which feels like a sanctuary compared to what BA can be like. A great escape, like a fairytale almost.
I'll be back, I'd recommend it to any of my friends also.
