This hotel is an unsung treasure. The staff was wonderful and so very helpful. Our room was great. It was the standard room. When it was booked, I was led to believe by the write up that it was a small room. Not so. It was a large sunny, very quiet room complete with a refrigerator and a jacuzzi. Every night, at least twice, the staff would come by with fresh towels and a basket of chocolates. Turn down service was automatic. the room was clean and service to a clogged drain occured within ten minutes of the call. We were swamped with toiletry handouts and anything extra we wanted. When I got a spanish language newspaper outside the door, the staffer ran down the street and returned with an english paper. Thereafter, there was an english language paper outside my door for the rest of the week. The staff was surprised and grateful when they were tipped. The doormen would hail the cab and then walk over to the driver and explain fully any instructions we might have. In one case, it meant explaining two other stops and a pickup before our destination.
The hotel is ideally located. the restaurant in the hotel has a nice affordable menu and stays open until late. When we didn't like the room service menu, I went down to the restaurant and ordered what we wanted. the waiter insisted on the full room service cart delivery but didn't charge a room service fee.
Frankly the rest of our party was envious. they stayed at a famous hotel that cost them a thousand dollars more than ours and their stay was not as luxurious or comfortable as ours.
My only complaint is the scope of breakfast offerings. They had lots of fresh fruit and juice, pastries, scrambled eggs and bacon, two kinds of ham and cheese and yogurt in their buffet but after a while, the same thing got old. Everything, however, that they offered was fresh and delicious.

  • Liked — quiet, service oriented, ideally situated location
  • Disliked — need more guest computers, more buffet variety

We are budget travelers but stayed there when our in-laws were in BA at the start of an organized tour. It is a wonderful hotel in an ideal location to Calle Florida and other walking tours of the city. The staff is super helpful -- they will score you tickets to a Boca Juniors futbol game or tell you how to do it yourself for far less money. The top-floor pool and hot tub are pristine and afford wonderful views. The complimentary breakfast bar is obscenely delicious, and the WiFi signals are strong. Our room was huge, with light-obscuring heavy curtains and down duvets, as well as an anteroom with a desk so someone can be working or surfing the web while the other sleeps in peace. There's really nothing not to like about this place, particularly if you want something other than the multinational chains that increasingly are taking over upscale hotelling in BA.

My wife and I spent two nights in the Hotel Dolmen before taking our cruise. The location was good (just a few blocks from Florida) and the room well appointed although it had just had a fresh coat of paint so the fumes were heavy. Our room also happened to be next to an open stairwell so we got the noise from other floors as well as people using the stairs, which was very irritating. The buffet was ample and good. However, at checkout, using my Amex card, I saw that I was going to be charged in Pesos so I showed the girl my reservation I had booked at their website and the guarantee in U.S. dollars but she insisted that I would be billed in Pesos. And, when I get my Amex bill, as I suspected, I was billed for more than the guarantee. Not a good experience!

i came to Argentina with my sister-in-law march 2007, we were greeted warmly and had our room in no time.. the staff was superb..we enjoyed our week long stay and our breakfast each day was fresh and good with more than enough to chose from.
our room was all that we needed , CLEAN AND AIR CONDITIONED.... we had internet service and the staff helped us with our walking tours and shopping excursions..(OH BOY)
i am returning with my husband, my two sons, my daughter and our son in law..i have informed the hotel that i am returning to celebrate our daughter's 1st. wedding anniversary and her 31st. birthday..i am confident they will all feel as i did..Stay tuned for more reviews..we are leaving in 6 days..

I LOVE THE DOLMEN HOTEL

The Dolmen has nice comfortable rooms, an indoor pool on the roof.
A lot of workers providing great service including many that spoke pretty good English, and where patient with my Spanish.
The breakfast buffet covers 3 long tables with everything you can think of.
There is a basic fitness center on the roof level, but they referred me to a world class gymnasium around the corner.
The location is perfect. It is walking distance to the Subte (subway) which goes all over town, it is surrounded by travel agent offices that sell tours, cafes, and antique shops. It is short walk to a main shopping street. Not too far to Retiro train station in case you take 1-day trips. Also a park where you can jog after dinner.
Very safe area. I went 18 months after the 2002 currency collapse when 1/3 of people lost their job. Being from San Francisco and used to big cities, I was amazed to find almost no homeless in the area, the streets were cleaned nightly, it was an incredible find.

  • Liked — Breakfast buffet and hotel location
  • Disliked — fitness center was basic few machines
