I stayed at this hotel for 8 weeks during June and July 2008 whilst on business.
Although the outside of this huge building looks impressive and can been seen for miles around, the inside is beginning to show it's age and the rooms are looking a little tired and shabby. It certainly isn't as good as other Sheraton hotels I've stayed in - and the rooms aren't that cheap here.
I had a good sized room on the 14th floor. The room seemed to have been redecorated (badly) many times over the years. However, the bed was comfortable, if somewhat squeaky, great pillows, plenty of hot water, powerful shower, large LCD TV and nice view over the square to Retiro train station.
Cleaning staff were really nice, very friendly and generous with delivering bottled water, chocolates and changing bathroom smellies. A real credit to the hotel.
A few minor complaints:
Breakfast on the ground floor is a joke. There is a very small breakfast room that is badly laid out. If you arrive at peak times you can't even get a seat. Really not good enough. Often no glasses available for the juice and getting served coffee seems hit and miss. Main focus of staff was always the flight crews that regularly stay there, the other guests were just in the way.
There is a much nicer breakfast area on the top floor which is excellent but is an extra cost.
I tried an evening meal in the ground floor restaurant which was reasonably priced. Had a set menu which included a bottle of wine and was good. Generally cheaper to walk a few blocks from the hotel where there's dozens of restaurants and fast food outlets. (The steak house opposite is pricey but amazing quality)
Had a club sandwich the lobby bar. Not so great, so never went again.
Elevators are being replaced right now, so expect them to be slow at peak times.
Laundry is incredibly expensive, it's cheaper to go out and buy new clothes! Pretty fast service if you choose to use it.
Wired and wireless Internet is available but is an extra cost and is expensive. However it's pretty fast once you're on.
Good range of TV channels available with many English language programs.
Always plenty of Taxis lined up outside at all times and the main train station is just over the road.
There are tourist trips that leave from the hotel regularly and can be booked from the reception. The city tour is good fun.
Finally check your bill carefully. For some reason I was charged for breakfast on some days even though it was included in the rate. If you have negotiated discounts before hand, ensure they're applied. The most stupid thing this hotel does is charge your credit card a separate transaction for EACH day stayed rather than a single total charge. Never seen this practice before and I travel frequently!
