Our third time here in three consecutive years. After staying for four nights in March, we went to Mendoza for four nights. When we returned to the FS, upon exiting the taxi from the airport we were greeted by name by the staff outside the hotel. And by the front desk staff even before we re-registered.This is, surely, the hotel equivalent of David Blaine's street magic. And explains, or at least hints at, why we keep coming back. In twoi words: personalized service.
The Four Seasons is not cheap. (Though less expensive than the Alvear.) It is not hip. (As is the Faena.) It just delivers , unobtrusively and reliably, the attention to detail that you hope to get in luxury hotels.A few examples: on a hot day,as you leave the hotel you will be offered bottles of chilled water to take along. When the hotel calls a taxi for you, you will be given a slip with the taxi's number so that if you leave something behind, there will at least be a chancetof recover the item. Of course, the rooms provide all the comforts you anticipate, with a style that might be called "unobtrusive." But it is the service that sets it apart. Also, note that Recoleta is the place to be to go on walks that explore the soul of BA. It's where the streets curve into squares with fountains, cafes are shaded by trees, and smart boutiques and galleries abound. A splendid place to walk--but keep at least one ey on the pavements, as sidewalks here seem almost universally to be in need of repair. And while portenos love dogs, they don't love cleaning up after them.
It is true that while some rooms have a view of the pool or the separate and exquiste mansion, many face an elevated highway. But the hotel is set back quite a bit from this , and fronts a grassy square with a fountain. Consequently, all these rooms get plenty of light And the windows--actually they are french doors--to the rooms are heavily glazed so no noise from outside is audible within. Two personal observations. My wife can rub a sheet between her fingers and assay its thread count. No surprise, she travels with her own pillow case. It is not needed here. One day we had lunch in
the bar, decided to share a club sandwich, and squabbled amiably over whether it should be accompanied by a salad or fries. My wife prevailed--but the hostess brought me an enormous platter of fries anyway. No charge. Wherever you choose to stay, I urge you to visit BA. It is a fascinating city, and the dollar--except at hotels--is strong. To take advantage of the city, you might want a guide. We have used a charming young woman, a native, but educated at Vassar (I think) whose insight and advice can save you time and money, as she did for us. She was recommended by a hotel gm and the wife of an Argentine diplomat. Please contact me if you would like her e-mail address.
I simply cannot say how much we loved our stay at these properties. Every single person we came into contact with was highly professional and kind with most staff greeting us by name almost immediately upon arrival. This goes for the chauffeur drivers, doormen, bellmen, maids, front desk staff, concierge, restaurant staff and pool staff. I've simply never stayed at a property where not one person let me down in at least some small way. This is quite an achievement. We had only ever stayed at the Four Seasons in Houston as we tend to stay at smaller boutique type properties but Four Seasons will be on our list again that is for sure based on the high quality experiences we've now had. We were upgraded to a junior suite on arrival in BA for our 2 night stay which was great, but we found the regular room we checked into for our 1 night stay (when returning from 3 nights in Carmelo) to be comfortable as well. Our visit in BA and in Carmelo rate as two of the best experiences at hotels we've ever had. BA is sophisticated while Carmelo is tranquil - we found it wonderful to combine the 2 and Four Seasons organized all of the transfers between the properties. Worth every penny you spend!
Maybe we are jaded but I knew the rooms would be great. The service stood out most for us here. We enjoyed our room, 7th floor overlooking the pool and mansion out back. The room, as we expected from any Four Seasons was impecable. After seeing other hotels both in our same area and other areas as well traveled through BA, we are glad we chose this hotel. My husband would have showered all day if possible he loved the shower head so much. Hey, thats not easy to find on vacation ! Don't laugh ! It was great I do admit ! The room was very nice, as we expected but above all the service was pretty much unbeatable. They remembered our names each and everytime they saw us come and go almost 3 days. Its not an east last name either. And it was everyone from the extremely helpful concierge we had (Augustina, she rocked !) to the bell man to the doormen to the hostesses. It made us feel special and let's face it, when you pay this much you want special ! I felt like there was pretty much nothing they would not do to make us happy. We were spending a few days prior to our cruise there and when we asked if it was ok to come back when our cruise was over to use their spa and maybe hold our luggage as our flight was not until almost midnight, they said that would be great ! We booked their spa special which compared to US prices was actually a good deal. After disembarking the ship we then took a cab from the ship at 9 am on a Saturday, 2 weeks after we had checked out to sail on the cruise, and returned to the Four Seasons to relax away our day pre-flight. Our cab pulled up, the doormen opened our cab doors and said "welcome back Mrs. Streyle". !!!! We were floored that they had made note of our return and knew this was us from 2 weeks prior ! They held our bags, got us a cab to the great shopping area of Florida st. (GREAT mall called Pacifico Galleria) and an awesome store down the st. called Falabella and we strolled away a few hours. We came back for our spa treatments, sat by the pool (yes, its small as reviewed by others but not THAT bad; its not a big "pool" kinda city). Also as previously reported the breakfast buffet is not that small an area and was never crowded when we were there. The services were great, as was the spa and we were showered, relaxed and ready for a nice dinner across the street at our new favorite, Sorrento's (4 cheese gnocchi OMG!) we left for the airport glad to be on our way home but also sad as The Four Seasons had made us feel very much home away from home.
In life you get what you pay for and the Four Seasons is no exception. I’m inclined to agree with previous reviews about it being flawless. The service is so slick with check-in and check-out being a dream. The concierge knows the best places to eat and shop and the doormen are extremely polite. The rooms are extremely luxurious with flat screen TVs, massive beds and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets. The bathrooms are well stocked with L’Occitane goods and well proportioned. The facilities at the Four Seasons are first class with a well groomed pool area, high spec gymnasium and a magnificent spa which lends itself to indulgency. My only issue would be the quality of the breakfast spread. We weren’t particularly overwhelmed by the choice or the quality but I have to say this was our only grievance.
Would we stay here again? 100% yes!
