“First class all the way”

Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires

What else can you expect from a Four Seasons property but excellence all the way. I went to BA for business and had labored to find the right hotel to stay. We were there for just over a week. I'm glad we stayed there. The staff was always professional and helpful. The concierge had some fantastic recommendations for dinner as well as being very knowledgeable about the BA scene. I had a hiccup with their wi-fi; it doesn't seem to work so well. But they helped me get on the internet. My room overlooked the swimming pool which is gorgeous, btw. Even in the midst of winter the steam rising from the pool looked very inviting. Every day housekeeping left me little treats in my room: fruit or gourmet chocolates. The bed is fantastic. Room services is quite good too. Try their homemade dulce de leche ice cream. It was truly decadent. The health club is the only thing I do regret: there are only treadmills and my knees are shot. I wish they had other machines like the elliptical. The hotel is located in the posiest area of Buenos Aires called Recoletta. It looks exactly like Pairs! There is a fairly nice shopping mall about two blocks away called Patio Bullrich that can fulfill anyones shopping urge. There are a couple of other hotels that would be worth trying out, but overall the Four Seasons was a great experience.

We stayed at the Four Seasons and booked it through the AMEX Fine Hotels Plan. This included breakfast daily and a lunch during our stay as well. The basic king room we booked was very spacious and nicely appointed. The city view is not really much of one as it faces the freeway, but noise wasn’t a problem (room 704). On the 7th floor there is a library with a business center (very nice that there wasn’t an additional charge for computer usage) and complimentary non-alcoholic drinks. The food at breakfast and lunch was excellent. We used the fitness center which was large and top quality. The spa looked very nice, but we didn't have the time to use it. The AMEX plan comes with a free upgrade if available. When we arrived they couldn't upgrade us, but called us on day two of our four night stay and offered to move us to a Jr. Suite. We moved to room 409 and which was very large with a nice view of the palace. The hotel staff provided excellent service throughout our stay.

I have been at the FS BsAs for 8 days. This is one of the finest hotels I have ever visited. BsAs is a great city and one that I love dearly for the people, sights, food and hospitality. I booked my trip through the hotel by email. The young ladies that helped me with my room reservations, spa reservations, dinner reservations, etc. were outstanding. Ms. Carolina in the reservations dept. was very nice as was Ms. Mariana in the Concierge dept. Ms. Juleta at the front desk was also very nice. I have never seen a hotel where the service was as outstanding as that during my visit. I didn't think I would return to BsAs and Argentina but now I must as the city is very nice, the people are friendly and the food is the best I ever had. I had a Jr. Suite with a great view. The spa is nice also. The hotel is located in the most exclusive area of town. I can't tell you how great this hotel is. I stayed at the FS in NYC, Costa Rica, Dallas, Whistler and RC hotels all over the US and the Caribbean. This hotel is right at the top of all of them.

“Just what you'd expect...fabulous.”

Exactly what you would expect from a Four Seasons. Wonderful service, excellent rooms. Our flight from the states was 12 hours late. Instead of having an overnight flight with our three daughters (ages 10, 8 and 4), we flew throughout the day and everyone was pretty beat by the end of it.

However, standing at the airport was the driver from the Four Seasons, with cool towels and bottles of water for each of us. Absolutely delightful! We had a suite and connecting room for the children. Our room included a large, hydrotherapy soaking tub. There was a charming note welcoming us to South America, with a calming candle and "jet lag" bath salts. Front desk recommended a delightful restaurant just down the street.

We only stayed at the Four Seasons BA our first evening in Argentina and then we transferred to the Four Seasons in Carmelo, Uruguay (see my review - this was spectacular!). The next day was one of my daughter's birthdays. The server in the restaurant brought her a cake for breakfast. The girls then went swimming. When one of her sisters tried to take the ball away from her, she said "Hey, its my birthday". Within 10 minutes, the pool attendant had brought her another cake. Everyone who saw her said "Happy Birthday, Ally". I swear she felt like Hannah Montana! The FS in Uruguay had similar, over-the-top, wonderful birthday service.

I would highly recommend this hotel. Unfortunately, when we returned to Buenos Aires after our stay in Uruguay, we stayed at the Sheraton Libertor (the FS in BA is definitely pricey) and had a horrible experience.

If you are transfering to Uruguay, we took the ferry one way and the flight the other. Of course, the ferry took longer and was extremely crowded so go early to get seats together. Also, we could not purchase anything at the snack bar because we only had US and Agentinian dollars. The flight was more expensive (but - kids under 12, half price, under 5 are free) but extremely convienent. Just a warning - if you get car sick - take the ferry. Poor Ally thew up the entire 15 minute flight!

Second time here in 18 months, and noted some changes. Rooms updated with new furniture. Service still a feature--at least one staff member claimed to remember our names from a previous visit. Breakfast buffet continues to be bountiful. A couple of minor negatives: when we returned after dinner one night the door person reminded us that we still had time to catch the FS Tango Show. This wasn't so much advice as a sales push. There are, in truth, two places where the FS is distinctly inferior to other BA luxury hotels. The main restaurant on the lobby is no place you want to go for dinner. Indeed, the guide books mostly ignore it. The second underachievement is the FS tango show, which shouldn't be mentioned in the sane breath with that of the Faena. Still, after staying at or visiting all of the luxury hotels listed below, I would rank the FS first over all. It is less expensive that the Alvear Palace, its rooms are larger than those of the Sofitel, less austere (and bigger) than the rooms at the Park Hyatt. As for the Faena, I find it to be extraordinarily theatrical. The rooms express a kind of brothel-chic. And most guests will find it hard to live up to the hauteur of the staff. As previously noted, it has a remarkable tango show, but it can be fiercely expensive for the unaware. The package for the evening can be US$250 per person.. If you find that too dear, you can opt for a drinks only (no dinner) and don't accept their offer of a pick-up at your hotel. Just grab a cab on your own. (To be fair, my wife, who is a lot younger than I am, thinks if I was hip I would find the Faena more appealing.) Whether you attend the Faena tango show or not, you should --maybe must--go to a milonga if you like either tango or local culture. Here are two places where local people are likely to be seen dancing, La Calesita, and Centro Region la Leonesa. Here the show is the reality of locals who perform tango with artful devotion. One of the advantages of FS is you can walk through Recoleta, a neighborhood of impressive squares and narrow streets bordered by trees, sprinkled with interesting shops, cafes and everywhere interesting buildings honored with amazing doors--wooden, bronze, latticed ironwork or glass. But as you walk, keep one eye on the pavement. Portenos love dogs, but they don't love picking up after them. BA is a terrific city to explore on your own. And you should. But a guide can save you lots of time if you have a dedicated area of interest--shopping for art, or furniture, for example. We were fortunate to obtain the services of a bright and well-connected young woman who while born in Argentina was educated in the U.S. She was highly recommended by a hotel gm and by the wife of a high-ranking Argentine government official. If you're interested, please e-mail me and I will send you her contact info. Or if you want an expansion of anything herein, feel free to write.
