The Alvear Palace is imposing, beautiful, covered with marble and gilt. The service is beyond impeccable, with a "butler" on your floor, perfectly maintained rooms and an opulent breakfast buffet included. Fantastic location. Only criticism is the so-called "pool" which is the size of two hot tubs and a smallish gym. Service is far better than most five star hotels, and if you appreciate classics, it is a delightful experience.

As a VERY frequent traveler with over 280 days on the road for the last 5 years, I visited BA at least 4 times a year.
I stayed at the Hilton (Platinum Executive); Park Tower (Starwood preferred member); Sofitel Recoleta, Four Seasons; Faena, and some other hotels in BA, there is no question in my mind that the Alvear is my top choice without a doubt.
Location: on Alvear Avenue, a very fashionable district within walking distance to so many museums and attraction, that I don't think I need to elaborate.
Building: French style I will guess 1930's in outstanding condition, every detail is worth looking at. As you get off your transportation from the Airport, you are greeted by an army of people in beautiful uniforms, and in correct English. The entrance is out of this world.
Marble; Glass and Wood galore, and clean and shining top to bottom.
Gold plated accent hardware, gold letters, period furniture, the works.
The check in process is a bit long due to government bureaucracy. (They need a copy of the passport, address and all that).
Gold plated elevators, spotless, nice taste decor in the corridors, nice quality uniforms everywhere.
The Room: Great taste, from the chandelier, the paint, the mirrors, desk, chair. What a bed, better than the Heavenly Bed from Starwood, with plenty of pillows.
The Bathroom; has all gold plated elements, and HERMES toiletries. Great puffy towels, and other nice accessories.
Wireless: the entire property is wireless, so no issues there.
My room had also some nice period paintings and drawings.
Nice closets, with lights, real hangers, and safety deposit box.
After 5 minutes in the room, your personal Butler rings the door bell, introduces herself, and offers to unpack and if requested they will press up to three pieces at no charge.
Breakfast: NOW, THIS IS A REAL TREAT!!
No question, there is Nothing that compares to Breakfast at the Alvear. Again a parade of nice colorful uniforms in a palace like environment full of light!
The food, is of the best quality, and variety. Fruits, breads, so much variety, and the special of the day. I stayed 8 nights, and they did not repeat the special.
It will be very hard for me not to go back to the Alvear, This is how I imagine paradise.

Our 3-night stay in July was superb. The service by well trained staff was attentive, but not obtrusive. Our room was outfitted perfectly and the fresh roses and fruit each day were lovely touches. Tea was well done, though it was not the London Savoy. Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat at La Bourgogne, the award winning restaurant. The daily buffet breakfast featured hot and cold dishes and the variety was vast and delicious. Our room was comfortable, the bed linens were fine and the bathroom luxurious - Hermes toiletries and plush robes and slippers in a bathroom equipped with a great shower, a jacuzzi and a bidet! We decided that we cannot ever visit BA again and stay at any other hotel. We're spoiled!

  • Liked — Quality of service.
  • Disliked — Lack of subway/public transportation access, though cheap taxis were plentiful.
  • Tips/Secrets: — A handy ATM across the street 1 block to the right. Recoleta Cemetary (Evita's grave) and Recoleta artisan market very nearby.

The best hotel in South America I have stayed in. The setting is spectacular and staff is among the best I have encountered anywhere in the world--up to the best standards in London and Paris. The butler took care of all details and the Conceirges provided excellent dinner recommendations. The room was comfortable and the WiFi worked well. We felt as if we were visiting Buenons Aires and will remember this gracious hotel always. The hotel is also convenient to many stores, good restaurants, museums, and the parks and cemetary nearby.

You could not choose a better hotel for your stay in Buenos Aires. The Alvear is the best. From the moment I arrived, early a.m. on overnight flight, everything went smoothly. Upon arrival the friendly desk agent told me the room was ready. My room was large and well appointed, it faced a side street, noise was minimal. Their complimentary buffet breakfast had an array of fresh pasteries, fruit, yogurt, juices, cereal and warm dishes and the coffees and freshly made espresso and cappuccino were sublime. The staff was excellent, friendly and efficent from the room attendants, waiters, butlers, front desk, bellmen and concierges were ALL ready to assist me with any request. By the second day every staff member addressed me by my name, a nice touch for such a busy hotel. Concierge recommendations were all accurate from restaurants like La Cabrera and Mirosol and shopping for leather at the nearby Rossi & Corusso. With the favorable exchange rate, I recommend spending the extra money to experience the excellent service and ambiance this hotel has to offer.
