As a VERY frequent traveler with over 280 days on the road for the last 5 years, I visited BA at least 4 times a year.
I stayed at the Hilton (Platinum Executive); Park Tower (Starwood preferred member); Sofitel Recoleta, Four Seasons; Faena, and some other hotels in BA, there is no question in my mind that the Alvear is my top choice without a doubt.
Location: on Alvear Avenue, a very fashionable district within walking distance to so many museums and attraction, that I don't think I need to elaborate.
Building: French style I will guess 1930's in outstanding condition, every detail is worth looking at. As you get off your transportation from the Airport, you are greeted by an army of people in beautiful uniforms, and in correct English. The entrance is out of this world.
Marble; Glass and Wood galore, and clean and shining top to bottom.
Gold plated accent hardware, gold letters, period furniture, the works.
The check in process is a bit long due to government bureaucracy. (They need a copy of the passport, address and all that).
Gold plated elevators, spotless, nice taste decor in the corridors, nice quality uniforms everywhere.
The Room: Great taste, from the chandelier, the paint, the mirrors, desk, chair. What a bed, better than the Heavenly Bed from Starwood, with plenty of pillows.
The Bathroom; has all gold plated elements, and HERMES toiletries. Great puffy towels, and other nice accessories.
Wireless: the entire property is wireless, so no issues there.
My room had also some nice period paintings and drawings.
Nice closets, with lights, real hangers, and safety deposit box.
After 5 minutes in the room, your personal Butler rings the door bell, introduces herself, and offers to unpack and if requested they will press up to three pieces at no charge.
Breakfast: NOW, THIS IS A REAL TREAT!!
No question, there is Nothing that compares to Breakfast at the Alvear. Again a parade of nice colorful uniforms in a palace like environment full of light!
The food, is of the best quality, and variety. Fruits, breads, so much variety, and the special of the day. I stayed 8 nights, and they did not repeat the special.
It will be very hard for me not to go back to the Alvear, This is how I imagine paradise.
