An elegant hotel in La Recoleta neighborhood with lots of security. The uniformed staff is very friendly and always willing to help . Fresh roses in he room were a nice touch except when they weren't .

Room Tip: Never accept the first room offered

As probably happens a lot, my trip planning to Buenos Aires involved much debate on the perfect hotel. We picked Alvear Palace for historic significance and location, we'll return for the service.

As location goes, Alvear can't be beat. In the heart of beautiful Recoleta, it's steps from fine dining, shops and the must-see (and amazing) cemetery. Before our trip, we were fortunate to contact concierge Fernando, who graciously helped us with anything and everything we requested including private tour guides, reservations at in-demand restaurants, and the best seats in the house to the fabulous Rojo Tango.

Once we arrived, the exemplary service just continued. From the always helpful bellmen, to our gracious butler, to Marcos, our favorite bartender, we felt like we were at home (if only our relatives would be so nice!)

Our trip involved two separate stays in Buenos Aires and our intent was to try an alternate hotel for the second half of our visit. After staying at Alvear, we could not imagine going anywhere else, but Alvear was booked solid. Once again, Alvear proved their service expertise when Florencia kept track of our request and emailed us the second they had a cancellation. We were not only able to return, but they also upgraded us to a beautiful suite (and our first room was already beautiful).

The management of Alvear understands a critical, but often overlooked fact; it's easy to nitpick a hotel, but when service trumps all, it's impossible to find a reason to complain. There may be newer, smaller, or more trendy choices, but none will make your trip more special than Alvear Palace.

We wanted the amenities of a luxury hotel but didn't want the cookie cutter familiarity of a Four Seasons. As one reviewer said, the Alvear Palace has an old world feel with updated amenities. You really get a sense of Buenos Aires from decades ago while luxuriating in this great hotel. The front desk, concierge desk and the staff at the front door were friendly and helpful. It isn't cheap, but I don't think we could ever go back to Argentina without reservations at the Alvear Palace. This is maybe the best hotel we have ever had the pleasure to stay in.

At the end of October my wife and I spent six nights at the Alvear Palace. The bedroom was large with a full wall of closet space. The bath consisted of a room with a sink and a walk in shower. The other room had the toilet and a large soaking tub. At the end of the tub was a TV with controls that could be used while soaking. It also had a control for answering (and hanging up) the telephone. The sitting room was a little small, but contained a sofa, a couple of chairs, a TV and a very nice large desk. The service was first class, with a butler assigned to each floor. What I really liked was that, unlike many five star hotels, they did not have a whole list of extra charges. Wireless in the room - included. Full breakfast buffet - included. Morning paper - included. Access to the spa, gym and swimming pool - included. Two clothing items per person pressed - included. (the swimming pool is very small, but I understand that the hotel is addressing that problem) We had dinner one night at La Bourgogne and the food and serivce was excellent. We skipped the tasting menu, chose a three course dinner and the bill including wine, but not the tip came to just under $250 USD. Not cheap, but more than fair for a restaurant of that quality. The hotel's location is great and we walked to many of the things we wanted to see. One day we did use a car and driver. I read about John Boyle in trip advisor and he gave us an excellent four hour tour. He was born in Ireland and only moved to Buenos Aires about 10 years ago. If you need an English speaking tour guide, you will have no problem understanding him. All things considered, my wife and I were very happy with our choice of the Alvear Palace.

A great place to stay. This is how a hotel is supposed to be run. The staff are gracious and always helpful. The lobby, bars and dining room are beautiful with marble, high ceilings and polished copper everywhere. It doesn't look dated, just wondefully maintained. The location
is perfect. Recoleta is great for walking around with some great restaurants nearby.

What a pleasure to arrive here after a long flight from LHR. The entrance to the hotel is breathtaking, reminding you of times gone by. The rooms are luxurious and the service is epitomised by the butler that looks after each floor. Truly lovely even for a relatively short stay

Room Tip: A room towards the back of the hotel will naturally be a little quieter than one close to the street

Sumptuous and elegant. If you are interested in the Recoleta part of B.A., which is akin to Fifth Avenue in NYC, this is the place to stay for the full experience. The high ceilings, polished marble floor, and white-gloved service take you back to a time when elegance was the norm for most travel to cities. Expensive, yes but well worth the price. The staff is very attentive and helpful. We are not usually room service fans, but the room was so beautiful that one night of our stay, we dined en suite and it was just as nice as going to a hotel. The beds are heavenly. Highly recommended.
