The hotel is an old-style grand hotel, well kept up and overstaffed (I suspect in part for security)

We had a junior suite on the courtyard - no noise at all.

The decor is classic French. The batroom was small but excellent - jacuzzi, sperate shower, bidet etc, Hermes toilitries etc.

The staff was extremely helpful.

The breakfast buffet was very good. The bar serves light meals, which is helpful for Americans who can't wait until 8 PM for dinner.

The pool was adequate and usually unoccupied.

The location is the best in the city.

Just returned from South America. I don't need to add much to the positive reviews about the Alvear Palace Hotel. Our room was large and beautiful (faced the main street on the 4th floor). The bathroom was very large too. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice. The location was perfect. The decor was not to my personal taste (a little fussy), but we found the public space and our room to be lovely. It's too bad that some reviewers had a negative experience, but we can find no fault with this lovely hotel.

I stayed at Alvear Palace with my wife in September for 5 days. We had a wonderful visit.

The hotel was beautiful and the staff extremetly helpful. We had a very large room with a shower and a spa tub. We were on a low floor but heard little noise. The room was very comfotable and luxurious. I wasn't sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised.

We ate breakfast at the hotel every day and they had a wonderful breakfast buffett. We ate lunch at the hotel once (the lunch buffett) and it was very elaborate and good.

We had the concierge at the hotel make all of our dinner reservations. We researched most of the restaurants we ate dinner at but the concierge was not shy in telling us if he liked our choices when we asked his opinions. All of our meals were fabulous.

Unfortunately the night we ate at the fancy restaraunt in the hotel, my wife got sick (before the meal) and I ended up eating alone. The meal was excellent, but it would have been much more enjoyable with my wife!

That night when our floor butler realized my wife was sick, he jumped into action. He brought us gatorade and what ever else we needed. The service was outstanding.

The hotel is in a great location and we did lots of walking and shopping. Normally we would not pick such a large and old grand hotel, but we were very glad we ended up at Alvear Palace. If we make it back to Buenos Aires, and we hope to soon, we will defintely stay there again.

We spent 5 days at the Alvear Palace over Christmas and had a fantastic time. We had a marvellous double deluxe junior suite, with 3 televisions, acres of wardrobe space, butler service and free internet access. All the essentials! The staff at the Alvear are very well trained and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. The buffet breakfast was outstanding and we also ate on Christmas Eve in La Bourgogne restaurant downstairs. Fantastic food and a truly memorable meal, but not cheap. The hotel is only minutes from La Recoleta cemetery and lots of local restaurants. We used a local company called Wow Argentina to take us on private tours, and they were excellent.

  • Liked — Superb standards - all the furniture, linens, glassware etc. were first class
  • Disliked — When my butler packed my case, quite a few clothes were badly creased!

We stayed at the Alvear Palace for our first three nights in Buenos Aires (followed by 3 nights at the Fours Seasons and 1 night at the Caesar Park, reviews to be posted). The Alvear is an elegant old world hotel. We were upgraded from a Jr. Suite to a Deluxe Suite which was amazing. (Our rate was $520 US plus tax, fyi) The suite had a bedroom and living room elegantly decorated including a bouquet of fresh roses and fresh fruit. While the suite was amazing what really makes this hotel special is the staff, everyone was superb, there was someone at every turn to meet your every need. If you don't want to strain your fingers to press the buttons in the elevator, don't worry, there is someone waiting to do that for you! Breakfast was superb including sparkling wine, a nice touch! Service is white glove. While some might find the Alvear stuffy if you want to live in a fantasy for a few days and feel like royalty this is the place to do it. This place also attracts the celebs, we ran into Robert Deniro and Jane Fonda while staying here.
