My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Libertador from September 22nd through 28th. From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed the friendly hospitality of a staff that could not have been more helpful. They helped us to make reservations for a tango show, made wonderful suggestions of places to have dinner, gave us directions to places we wanted to visit, called us cabs, told us where to find the best ATMs, the best breakfast, etc.

The concierge was very helpful, making a phone call to a friend in Uruguay. The Business Center staff was also very helpful. (Not to mention very patient and appreciative of my high school Spanish - not necessary, because everyone was very fluent in English).

Our room was lovely and comfortable. The housekeeper kept it in fine condition. On the last night, when we had to move to another room, the entire move took 10 minutes and was handled very professionally at 10:00am, so at no time were we without a "base".

As tango enthusiasts, we were thrilled that the hotel is a short walk from Avenida Suipacha, the location of great tango shoe stores, la Confiteria Ideal, where you can get a three-hour tango lesson from an excellent teacher for $5, and close to Zival's, the best record store in town. It is a short cab ride from the best Milongas and restaurants in town, and a comfortable and interesting walk from just about everywhere in the central area.

I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends traveling to Buenos Aires. The location is central and convenient to many locations - especially the delicious pedestrian shopping area of Avenida La Florida, there is always a cab, and the friendly door staff make you feel very safe, even if you are coming back at 3:00am.

  • Liked — The wonderful staff
  • Disliked — the view, but that is typical of any big city hotel
  • Tips/Secrets: — To go to your room, take the express elevator next to the gift shop

I stayed there for 8 nights. Quite a nice hotel, comfortable rooms, no noise, lots of TV channels, and very friendly staff. Very good breakfast buffet, and room service is also up to standard. Good service at reception. I would definately stay there again, especially if they come around to renovating it.

Worse Check-In. Concerned Bellboy Saved the Day!

I stayed at the Sheraton Libertador Buenos Aires. I want to share some good points and recommend areas where improvement is necessary. (1) The reservation process was superb, especially the follow-up contacts with the dir. of reservations at the Sheraton Libertador. (2) The check-in process was a disaster. My experience was saved by a superb
and concerned bellboy (named ARIEL) who realized that SPG Gold members
needed special care. There was no organization (maybe 50 persons) crowding the desk area with no order. I had asked ARIEL for the SPG desk and he had directed me to that side of the counter. I waited there patiently but soon realized the young woman (VANESSA) serving that side of the desk paid no attention to the SPG check-in sign and served whomever thrusted their documents to her first. Total chaos. Because I speak Spanish I kindly leaned forwar and asked if I was in the right place for SPG check-in (should be quick and simple). VANESSA, in a rude and loud voice (that others could easily hear) responded in Spanish "in this country we are all equal so you just need to wait." I was amazed by her response, her aggressivity, and the loud tone in which she voiced her directions. I
caught ARIEL's and explained what had happened and VANESSA's rudeness.
He apologized on her behalf and went behind the desk to inform the desk manager that there were some SPG's waiting in the crowd of 50 (as there was no line or rope or any other organizing system..the strongest and more aggressive move towards the front). ARIEL then returned to his duties but told me that the desk manager (a young man wearing glasses) would take care of any SPG's shortly. The front desk manager was overwhelmed by the crowd and never came to assist me or ask if there were any SPG's in the crowd. 45 minutes later (!!!), ARIEL retured and was surprised to find me standing in the same spot waiting to be checked-in. ARIEL again went behind the desk int a back area. This time he succeeded and returned with a wonderful young lady (Melinda) who proceeded my check-in in less than 3 minutes, but that was after waiting nearly 50 minutes in absolute
chaos. In sum, the behavior of VANESSA, and the unconcerned front desk Manager wearing glasses were unacceptable, especially VANESSA's rude and aggresive response. The SPG guest check-in signs existed but were ignored. There were no rope lines, no organized check-in process. Nothing. Any purse snatcher would have found the perfect location to commit her/his crime. I strongly recommend that VANESSA be sent to
customer care training and learn about the SPG program. I also applaud and thank the ONE concerned employee (the bellboy ARIEL) who is clearly the one with the poise and right attitude to be behind the desk representing SHERATON and assisting your SPG Guests. He must be rewarded for his concern, his approach, and his excellent judgment
(i.e., knowing when immediate action is required). Again, VANESSA should be reprimaded, briefed on the Sheraton's SPG program, and if she does not improve radically, she
should be dismissed. I was embarassed, himiliated, and offended by VANESSA's approach and the total chaos during my check-in at the SHeraton Libertador Buenos Aires.

We stayed at both the Libertador and the Sheraton Buenos Aires at the front and tail end of our stay in Argentina. Our rate was $110 + tax form the Sheraton web site (it was too late to redeem the SPG points, but we thought it was a reasonable rate). I have to agree 100% with the user from Kent, England--the building and the rooms are a little shabby and old, but the staff and the little touches of service make for a great experience.

We came in before 1 pm and it was no problem to get checked in to our room (big issue with other Sheraton), and as a SPG members we automatically got high floors, and surprisingly a complimentary bottle of wine in the room. Room was nothing fancy, but quiet. Carpeting was old but the bedsheets, bathroom amentities were pleasant.

The gym was good, with service attendant, towels, beach chairs and fresh fruits. We took advantage of the pool/jacuzzi with the skyline view on the top floor, and most of the time were virtually alone in there. The hotel was probably not full, so we did not have issues with the elevator like other reviewers did (though it was slow!). The people at the front desk took time to discuss with us where to go, what colectivos to take, etc.

Of course the best part is the location, right on the border between Microcentro and Retiro. The big mall (Galerias Pacifico) was right there, as well the designer shops on the perdestrian street (Florida) the leather merchants on Suipacha... depending on far you were willing to walk you could walk anywhere worth seeing in Buenos Aires (except maybe La Boca and Palermo).

We made sure to indicate that the Sheraton was indeed on Av. Cordoba to the taxi driver and had no confusion, even though I can see how it could happen.

Overall, I preferred this hotel to the Sheraton Buenos Aires--while less fancy, location and service make up for it.

I just spent one night at this Sheraton Hotel. It is one of the dirtiest (upscale) hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel does not appear to have been renovated since it was built (probably the mid-1970's)and it shows. The rooms have dilapidated bathrooms, the room carpets are filthy, and the room walls are smudged with dirt, and patches are used to fix holes. The wallpaper in the halls is ripped and the carpet shows its wear. The breakfast, even if included in the price is not worth paying for. The hotel is a tour group destination. If it wasn't a Shearton it would close within month. When I complained to the staff, they all agreed that the hotel's condition is unsatisfactory but did not offer to discount my rate. Stay someplace else!
