After a long, overnight flight into Buenos Aires from the US, I was hoping (but not expecting) to be able to check into the Sheraton Libertador in the morning so I could unwind. To my surprise, the hotel did my room ready and would let me check in. When I presented my starwood card, the very nice clerk took my reservation and upgraded it to a club level room at no charge. My room was on the 18th floor and had a great view of the city. The room was very nice and had a large LCD tv, king size bed, desk. The room had complimentary bottled water. I went up to the club level lounge on the 21st floor and had some light snacks and beverage before heading out to see BA. The lounge had a PC workstation along with several comfortable couches and large screen tv. There was also a dining area where light appetizers snacks were served along with coffee, juice, water and soda. Breakfast was also served in the lounge...there was fresh fruit, cereal, coldcuts, juice and coffee. The gym room at the Sheraton normally costs $15/day to use but the gym staff allowed me to use it gratis. The gym consists of a pool, sauna room, and a moderately size weight room with 3 treadmills, stairclimber and upright bicycle. The Libertador is in a very good location close to the Retiro area. There is plenty of restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions which can be reached on foot. The staff at the Sheraton from the front desk, to the porters, hotel operator and gym staff were all very pleasant and always accomodating with me. I will definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — The kind and very helpful staff
  • Disliked — The entrance to the hotel has construction and makes it difficult for taxis and other vehicles to enter and exit

This is my first trip to B.A. If you like Madrid or Barcelona, you will love this city. The Sheraton is in the Retiro district, with excellent shopping, and within a fairly easy walk to most of the major sites. Upon arrival, the check-in was a bit slow and chaotic, albeit with friendly staff. I was a bit surprised at the cost of the hotel, given the price of everything else in Buenos Aires, the hotel is a bit on the pricey side. The room on the 7th floor is standard business room, with a fair internet connection (WLAN only, no WiFi). The view was flat out against an ugly concreate wall. I expect better as a Starwood preferred. The internet connection is pricey, and that is always a frustration in business hotels in this day and age. Also, the restaurant is good, but pricey. However, when I went to the fitness center and pool on the 22nd floor, the lady there was incredibly friendly and helpful, and at the end of the day that is a real blessing. And one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a hotel is the sauna, which (after you find it) has an amazing picture window looking out over downtown B.A. It was one of the most relaxing things I have enountered on a business trip. That alone made the hotel a unique experience for me (and I stay in a LOT of hotels). The location is good if you are doing business downtown. The taxi ride from the International Airport is about 100 Pesos (about 35 bucks). ATM's are plentiful, though not in the arrival lounge of the airport. Overall, I would definitely stay in the Sheraton again, though I will compare rates with other hotels next time.

  • Liked — The helpful and nice lady at the fitness center, the view from the sauna
  • Disliked — Cost of internet access, cost of accomodation

The Libertador was my hotel of choice for my first-ever stay in Buenos Aires; at the time of booking they had a special on for $150 USD/night, including free buffet breakfast and in-room internet.

As it was my first visit to Argentina I also booked a driver to meet me at the airport and take me to the hotel, for $170 ARP -- it wasn't really necessary as you can easily book a Remis in the arrivals hall, but it's always nice to arrive in an exotic destination and have someone holding up a sign with your name on it!

The best thing the Libertador has got going for is the location. The Florida Street promenade is literally a block away from the hotel's front door. Oddly, the newer Sheraton Convention Centre is pretty close by as well -- I'd probably stay there if I'm lucky enough to visit BA again, but for first-timers the Libertador is right in the heart of the city's "Microcentro".

I'm happy to report that the elevator renovations I've read about elsewhere on TripAdvisor are now complete; wait times to get up to your room are negligible. The rooms themselves are another story, though -- I was originally booked in a refurbished room that wasn't yet ready upon my arrival. The one they gave me instead was a pretty run-down double, with a ratty carpet, ancient TV set and paper-thin door to the next room. I was able to change rooms later that evening, and got a bigger king bed with a newer TV. I never ending up seeing one of the newer rooms, but was happy with what I got.

The hotel internet is okay but not great. I certainly wouldn't call it high-speed -- I tried a video chat using Skype to someone back in Canada and the slow throughput crashed my laptop. For anything other than video it should be fine. Visitors to BA should note that there are lots of places to get free WiFi including many restaurants and even on the platform of every subway station!

The Libertador's other big letdown was it's breakfast. The hot food was so bad that I quickly gave up on it and concentrated on the excellent pastries instead. And the coffee was the kind of tasteless sludge you'd get at a bad truck stop.

To be fair, breakfast as we know it in North America isn't really part of the local culture -- many folks eat as late as midnight, especially on weekends, so starting the day off with a big hot meal isn't very common here. But the fact that there are so many excellent cafés literally on the hotel's doorstep should give you enough reason to skip the Libertador's breakfast and find a much better cup of morning coffee (and equally good pastries) elsewhere.

  • Liked — The location.
  • Disliked — The failed attempt at a North American breakfast.

I had been trying to get to sleep in another hotel around the corner which was proving impossible due to busses going past and general traffic noise. I walked a few blocks and found this hotel which was on an even busier road but the rooms were well sound proofed and I slept like a king! Very nice room & concierge and guest services excelent pool! well worth the price paid.

I was inadvertantly booked into this hotel by my office (it was meant to be the other Sheraton). This property is fairly old and they were doing renovations at the time of my stay which involved shutting down 2 of the three lifts. Waiting for the lift to arrive was time consuming. I found all of the staff to be extremely helpful as I do not speak Spanish. The room was one of the unrenovated ones but nonetheless good; it was serviced daily and had a view over the back streets of Buenos Aires. The hotel provided a complementary bottle of wine, chocolates, a few nibbles and shoe shine service which was good. Internet access was in the room for laptops using an ethernet cable but this was expensive at 50 pesos per day. There was also a business centre on the ground floor which had cheaper internet. The gym and swimming pool on the top floor appeared to be unused and much of the equipment was dated.

A hotel buffet breakfast available at 40 pesos was adequate, but there are many good coffee shops open early nearby which have more atmosphere. There did not appear to be a restaurant in the hotel for evening meals which was not really a disadvantage as there are many options available outside the hotel. There is very good security with guards/police stationed permanently outside the lobby in addition to the doorman. The location of this hotel is outstanding being adjacent to Florida Ave (pedestrian shopping street), Gallerias Pacifica (shopping center), bureau de change and a pharmacy. All of the sights of Buenos Aries central city are within easy walking distance.

  • Disliked — room was a bit tired
