This was our second time in Buenos Aires within a year. We stayed at the Claridge and the Alvear Palace the first time. This time we selected the Sofitel due to the Trip Advisor reviews as well as the Sofitel's great location near the Recoleta and also close to the Microcenter, San Martin and Puerto Madera.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel. The desk clerks, concierge and bell men were friendly and helpful. Since we had been there before, we didn't need much direction, but I saw them giving directions to others. We arrived on LAN Peru at 7:40 a.m. on March 2nd and within 30 minutes our room was ready.

The room was excellent, I have attached pictures. We prepaid on the Expedia website a Queen deluxe room with breakfast at $280 per night not including tax. The Alvear, which we loved, would have been a great deal more money, but we are not disappointed. The only distinction was the breakfast which was adequate, but not the same as having it in the L'Orangerie at the Alvear.

We were very pleased with our room. It was quiet, had a view of the rooftops of B.A. and had 4 outside windows. There was a lot of dresser and closet space. There was a walk in shower and a separate bath and two sinks. The room was rather large and very elegant and contemporary.

We felt comfortable walking to dinner at night in the Recoleta area or other restaurants nearby. Although there are probably many more, the two distinctive restaurants nearby are Juana M and Mira Sol.

We spent the next half of our trip at the BoBo Hotel and will write about that hotel on that site. That was a different experience and very pleasant as well. I would highly recommend the Sofitel.

I stayed 4 nights Sunday 11-Thursday 15 March 2007, in order to attend a conference at the Four Seasons Hotel (about 5 minutes walk away). The hotel is located near the coast, in a side street off one of the main boulevards. I used a taxi (USD 25) to the main international airport; I saw no obvious public transport for that trip.

The hotel has an imposing, rather grand reception area, on either side of which are the bar/restaurant, and breakfast rooms. The reception staff were efficient and knowledgeable. They spoke good English.

My room 1201 had a large comfortable double bed, with fluffy duvet. The bathroom had a shower cabinet as well as a shower over the bath tub. It was tiled and kept clean. I did think money was wasted by changing my bed linen and towels every day (and sometimes twice per day in the case of towels.)

The breakfast was ok but laid out in three separate locations in the breakfast restaurant, which did not open until 06.30 sharp.

There is a good business centre on the first floor where internet access at the two PCs was not normally charged for. The staff were helpful is scanning documents for me.

The basement has a TINY pool (open also from 06.30). This is about 10 metres by 2 metres and was just ok for one person to swim seriously in. Two people would have made it crowded.

The hotel uses 2 pin (at angles - not parallel like the US ones) plugs and neither my French, British or US adaptors would work. The hotel has a supply of special adaptors.

I paid USD 357 per night (the tariff included breakfast) which includes a hefty 21% tax.

The hotel is good but not cheap.

Beautifully refurbished art deco building. Pleasing approach in a good area. Staff delightful. Breakfast appetising, well serviced and relaxing. Bar and young staff very professional. Our room was good if perhaps on the small side although bathroom well stocked. Great steak restaurant El Mirasol in easy walking distance on Posadas. Our first choice of hotel when we return to BA.

A great location, and since you should be spending most of your time outside of the hotel while in BA, its shortcomings are easily forgotten. You are a short walk to the heart of Recoleta, shopping, restaurants and Florida or Santa Fe for shopping. The rooms are too small, the bathroom too large, but the beds are the most comfortable I have even slept in. Breakfast is crowded and you will wait for your table or coffee, but the selection is good. The gym is very very small, and if you are over 6' you can't use the treadmills. Staff is friendly and attentive, best part again is the location.

This is a great luxury hotel very well located in a safe/nice neighborhood near the center of Buenos Aires. Great customer service, nice rooms (although a bit small), very comfortable beds, large bathrooms. A great place to stay!
