We were in a large business/ professional education group that stayed here for five days. Our room #810 was very pleasant, good sheets, bedding, pillows - but the sheer curtain on the one window had a big rip it it. We also would get sometimes three towels, sometimes two a day for two of us. The a/c was also problematic - but not an issue because of reasonable weather. The exec lounge was on our floor, but we could not use it because we are not Marriott elite stayers... which was interesting. The standards are not as high as one would expect, but the staff is very pleasant and helpful in other ways, especially the Concierge desk. If you appreciate history, this is a great place to stay, but it hasn't changed much since we were there twelve years ago. The location is wonderful, right off the Florida Mall, across from the lovely San Martin Park, next to Casa Lopez leather. Exercise room was touted as good by Frommers, but it is not.... two of four treadmills were out of service when I was there and service is fairly non existent. Pool is very nice, though we did not try it this time. The old bar is really lovely, with wonderful service - and the breakfasts were very good. If you want to see some excellently done tango, go to the reasonably priced show at the classic and old literary Cafe Tortino a short cab ride away.... we loved it. BA is a bargain right now and there is lots to see, so enjoy it while you can. Also recommend the US$ 27.50 buffet lunch at the Alvear Palace - some of the best food we had in SA, in an extraordinary setting, right after we had watched Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands leave in her limo, applauded by the Recoleta neighbors on the street!
