Before reviewing The BA Marriot Plaza, lets talks about a little bit of history: This great elegant hotel was built in 1909. The very first world class hotel opened in BA, almoust a century ago. At that time Buenos Aires was called: "The Paris of South America" because of its delicious french style arquitecture and also because, in those early years, Argentina became one of the most richiest nations in this part of the world.
Also the ball-rooms of this hotel was used several years ago for celebrating elegant high-society parties where the daughters of the most tradicional families of Buenos Aires were "presented in society" with their white dresses and escorted by young boy with tucseedoes and danced austrian valses all night until the sun shines. This kind of luxury parties were very famous also in Vienna hotels or in New York. I had the privilege of been part of one of those amazing gala - parties. Now a days Argentina owns a different reality, but the hotel still reamins like the golden years...
The Marriot Plaza is a really 5 stars hotel with excellent accomodations and amenities. For sure one of the most distinguish hotel in Latin America!

This is a traditional hotel in BA, it has a lot of history. The rooms are nicely maintained despite its age, the service is ok. Wireless internet at the lobby is free, important if you are traveling from the US arriving at 7am and have to wait until 3pm to get a room.

I only had an issue with this hotel, the elevators are located at a second floor, and the guests have to climb the staris after checking in. If you want to take your bags, it is very inconvenient, wonder why it was designed like this, never asked, perhaps have something to do with the hotel designs in that time.

There is a small elevator at one side, a little hidden, for people with disabilities perhaps. But I could not use it to go up. Anyway, it was good for exercising my legs.

It is in front of Plaza San Martin and La Florida boulevard in the center area of the city.

Good for walking and doing shopping, also near major business district and the port.

This hotel is a very good choice for shopping the excellent bargains in the Retiro area of BA. If you are accustomed to the Marriott brand in the USA, this hotel will meet that standard and exceed it in several ways too. The fresh linens offered every afternoon, and the turndown service at night were tasteful touches. Hotel services prices (restaurant dining, massage, etc.) are extremely fair and below USA. Note: Due to the value of the Argentine Peso, some charges (room service items) are listed in US dollars, which are still very low comparatively.

Not only could the concierge not answer some basic tourist questions, but he pocketed the money we gave him to mail all our postcards. He claimed not to have any stamps, but assured us he would buy them and mail our postcards. After a month, we don't think he ever did. The hotel itself isn't bad, except for the fact that the elevator doesn't stop at lobby level. You need to walk up or down a flight of stairs to get to the lobby.
