Like others, we were a little apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews of this hotel. We booked using points so we went ahead anyway. From the moment we arrived, though, we began a great experience. The staff (bellman, front desk, business center and especially concierge) were extremely courteous and helpful. The concierge staff were particularly good when it came to selecting restaurants or even little cafes -- very well informed and took the time to find out what our tastes were before choosing a place. Our room was very nice (404). A little bay window looked to the side street but still had a clear view of Plaza San Martin's trees and greenery. Housekeeping provided a tidy-up and fresh towel service each evening.
The location was very central, with fast taxi rides to all neighborhoods were we went in the evening. It is also right at the foot of Florida, the pedestrian shopping street. It is an easy walk to the Casa Rosada and Plaza de Mayo and a do-able walk to Recoleta. At night, we were told by everyone to have the hotel or restaurant call a Radio Taxi to avoid problems; we followed this advice and had no issues.
We'd advise to skip the hotel breakfast in favor of Florida Garden (only two blocks away) or any of the smaller places EXCEPT the Il Gran Cafe which was overpriced and unlike everywhere else in BA clearly rushing tourists in and out to generate revenue.
For us, the Plaza was a comfortable and friendly 'home base' for our time in Buenos Aires.
