“too hot to be hot”

Marriott Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires

After I booked my reservation online, I called Marriot reservations to assure this hotel had air conditioning as my sister has mulitple sclerosis and needs a cooler room. I was assured the hotel had ac. We were taken to our room at about 1530 and as soon as we got off the elevator we noticed how hot the hallway was and then saw the sign, "under construction. We were taken to our room and I immediately filed a complaint about the hot room. We were told the ac was just turned on and the room needed to "cool down." There was no ac blowing out of the vents. I make multiple phone calls and trips to the desk. I was told the only way they would change our room was if the maintenance department "informed them the ac was broken." NO ONE from maintenance would to check the ac. At midnight the PBX operator brought us a fan. During the night, my sister sweated so much that her red hair dye faded onto the pillow. I took this pillow to the front desk and tried to complain as loudly as possible so everyone could hear. Now they told me there was no record of any complaint!!!!. They sent maintenance to fix the ac and they had to replace the ac fan. The lack of customer service at this hotel was appalling. Houston, Texas

“Possibly the worst hotel I've stayed in (certainly at the price)”

The hotel is a lovely looking old building in a great location but the incredibly rude and incompentent staff made this one of the worst stays in ages. I was staying on business on a really expensive tariff ($450/night). For that I was given a 2nd floor room overlooking a concrete service block. Upon complaining - I was told that was all they had (this without the receptionist even typing into her screen to see if perhaps another room had opened up). I tried to change money (I first tried the ATM across the street but it was unfortunately down) - of course they don't change money, fair enough - so I asked where an ATM / money changer was, and was told "I don't know". I asked for a map and was handed one over - but the receptionist couldn't be bothered to show me where we were on the map.

I booked a haircut at the salon in the hotel - the 'stylist' didn't bother to show up (and I'd made sure I was in the hotel at the time giving up the opportunity to do something else).

So - for the money I got a small 'pokey' dark room and bad service. I most certainly won't stay at this hotel again - especially not for a business trip. Perhaps if you get a 'leisure price' (<$100/night) on the internet it might be worth staying here for the location - but I would simply "avoid avoid avoid". There are several other options that are better.

The proof is in the seeing so I'm attaching a picture to show the wonderful view from my room!

(The bright side is that Buenos Aires is a lovely city and the rest of the city was wonderful including some superb meals with wonderful service)

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. The crowd was mainly older and quiet. Very easy to get a cab anywhere and it was located in a central part of Buenos Aires but adjacent to Parque San Marcos and to Florida St. shopping. We never ate at the in-house restaurant because there were many other good options. Everything was clean and comforable. Great beds! No view.

A real Grand Hotel -- the Plaza - old but renovated a few years back. Some rooms are odd shaped, but all I have stayed in (12-15) are very comfortable and quiet. The service is great from everyone! Wireless is free in the Bistro and lobby - pay in the rooms. Location is at one end of Florida Street known for the shopping walkway. Great location. Many cruise ships book here so book early.
