My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in the Marriott hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location - right on the major shopping street. The hotel is overrun with American tourists. They overwhelm the lobby in the afternoons. They are afraid to venture out of the hotel by themselves so they sit in the lobby after checking out and before leaving for the airport (sometimes 3 to 5 hours). This makes the lobby very crowdy.

They also ask the staff many ridiculous questions. This begins to annoy the staff. We found that the staff then becomes annoyed with all hotel guests. One staff member was quite rude initially with us when we asked for a restaurant recommendation. However, he was very friendly afterwards. We found the staff to be very nice.

The rooms are small and the hotel needs to be remodeled. It could use some paint and some small fixes to make the hotel appear better.

We found the bed very comfortable.

We never took taxis that are directly in front of the hotel. The prices are higher.

Overall, the hotel is in an excellent location and we enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this hotel to our friends and family.

This will be a really mixed review as there are some great points to this hotel but it is also very let down in some aspects.

My husband and I stayed for 3 days in a double room on the second floor. The view was of a concrete block but the room itself was very nicely appointed with one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in and a good sized marble bathroom. However, after spending 30mins trying to find the air copnditioning control we realised that we should not have bothered as it was so ineffective. Really, air con doesn¨t exist at this hotel. It is hot in the rooms, the halls, the lobby, etc. They really need to sort this out as it was an uncomfortable stay during a BA summer.

The look of the hotel and services on offer are what one would expect with a Marriot but, on closer inspection, the pool is very small, the gym equiptment is very old and the breakfast was ordinary (not a Hilton standard, for instance).

On one day., my husband and I had been on a tour all day, returned to the room at 16:00 to find that it had not yet been serviced. This is surely sub-standard for a 4 star hotel. On another night, we wanted a beer in the room and realised that our mini bar had not been re-stocked from the day before. A bit stupid when the hotel makes such a margin out of this service!

The saving grace for this hotel is the amazing location, right in the heart of the city. You can walk everywhere. However, if you want to have some respite from the city and some luxury, go to the Hilton (where we have also stayed).

“Happy we chose the Marriott Plaza -- Very enjoyable stay”

We stayed 3 nights at the Marriott Plaza before our cruise. I also don't understand the negative comments. We had an excellent experience starting with checkin. Our room was very comfortable with the wonderful Marriott bedding. The hotel has a lot of charm. We had a large balcony with a side view of the park. We were on the 9th floor and it was very quiet. The breakfast had a very nice selection and was well prepared. We loved the hotel bar and the service there was outstanding. Also, very important in BA is that we were very secure there. We heard many stories on the ship from people who had been the victim of pickpockets & stolen watches in other areas. So do be cautious & don't wear expensive jewelry in BA. The location was very central. We found it very convenient to get around & there is a bank across the street where you can use the ATM. We did schedule our own tours/transfers with privatetours.com (highly recommended). I had originally checked out transfers from the airport with the Marriott and they were more expensive so I would suggest doing a little checking around before reserving anything.

This hotel was lovely. Very centrally located for a first visit. Park view room ...perfect. Very high ceilings...corner room with great exposure. Very traditional..You MUST guarantee a park view 5 floors or higher. Great gym massage and classic old school bar that makes an excellent martini...I do not know what all those other complaints are about...this is an old school hotel with the feeling of the Plaza in New york...although not that large. Maybe because I am a New Yorker...it seemed like great value...ONLY complaint was the charge for internet...REALLY in this day and age!

I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Marriott. I agree with some of the other negative reviews. This hotel is not up to Marriott standards. It is in need of refurbishing. The carpets are filthy, the heating vent in bedroom was dirty (i.e. black), peeling paint, and the room smelled musty. The staff cannot accommodate the large number of guests, and do not follow through with guest requests. Also, if they book a driver they charge extra (of course, they don't tell you about it, but a Radio Taxi cab on the street charges 65 pesos to go to the International Airport, and the hotel charges 100 pesos - their justification is that they give you a receipt). Do be careful in Buenos Aires to only take Radio Taxis - almost all the taxis in BA are black and yellow, but the non-Radio Taxis are notorious for ripping off tourists.
