We stayed at the Marriott Plaza for one night due to its attractive location on Florida street. Marriot is always a safe and reliable choice. The hotel is grand and beautiful, with very comforable rooms and heavenly beds. We had actually originally booked our last night at the Howard Johnson on Florida Street, but checked out immediately upon arrival due to several problems. Although twice the price, we were happy with our decison to move next door as the Marriot is superior in every way. Please note that at the end of the day, this is a chain hotel, but the advantage is that the quality is standard and you know what you're getting. If you're more adventurous, I recommend also spending a few days at a boutique hotel like Vain Hotel in Palermo (see review - highly recommended). The only drawback to the hotel is that the elevator does not go down to the main floor, so on the way out it is possible you may get stuck dragging your suitcases down the elaborate staircase if the front desk is busy. Tips: don't book taxi services through the front desk, just go outaisw and ask for yourself as you will find a much better price..Also be sure to check out the restaurants at Puerto Madero (extremely enjoyed Las Lilas), Caminito, and a Tango show in San Telmo (loved El Viejo Almacen). There are also many interesting monuments and artesanale fairs worth visiting. If you're there on a Sunday, the Antiques Fair in San Telmo is not to be missed.

Layout of the hotel is a little claustrophobic, but amenities are there. Although views of three rooms I saw were not picturesque, it probably helped keep the noise level down. Room was quiet and comfortable. Location on San Martin adjacent to Florida was extremely convenient and walking distance to several popular areas of the city.

  • Liked — Location. Convenient to several areas of the city on foot, short cab ride to aeroparque (AEP), and had all of the amenities needed while I was there.
  • Disliked — Recommendation of restaurant for dinner by the concierge. Hope he was getting a kickback.

This is one of the most classic hotels in Buenos Aires! The old Plaza hotel, now part of the Marriott Chain.

The best of it:
1) The beds are amazing!
2) The staff is friendly and helpful.
3) The surroundings and location: The plaza San Martin is beatiful and the Florida street (shopping) is right around the corner
4) I got a maasage: unbelievable!! An older (60+) heavy set man... when I first saw him I thought he might drop dead while giving me a massage, but then he surprised me with an amazing kneadding!!

The watchouts:
1) The elevators don't stop at the lobby level, so you alwaya have to go a floor up or down from/to the lobby to take the elevators.
2) Getting in and out of the hotel in a cab is tricky... you might have to do a big roundabout, and hit a lot of traffic. Their own cab service is poor
3) Breakfast is not that good
4) Don't leave anything behind!!! I left a book in the night table, called right away but it was already "not there"... they took no responsibility, of course!

  • Liked — The beds!
  • Disliked — the cab service

We stayed at the Marriott Plaza 3 different times over a 2 week period while vacationing in Buenos Aires. The first stay, we requested a park view room and had a great large king room -almost a suite -on the 8th floor. We requested early check in and were able to check in upon arrival after a long flight from US at noon. Next 2 stays were in double rooms on 3rd floor-much smaller rooms, but very nice. The hotel was fully booked and they could not provide early check in or late check out, but held our bags in storage, so could spend the day out and about. Bedding was devine! Staff all spoke English well and were very helpful and professional. Lots of security people about, so felt very safe. Nice exercise room and heated but small pool. Location was great-right at Florida Street shopping and could easily walk to many other sites and Recota/Palermo/San Telmo all a short cab ride away. I would definitely stay at this property again if in BA. For two of our stays, our rate included breakfast which was very good-nice selection of foods and very good quality. We had breakfast out several days and none of the breakfasts was even close to as nice as the Marriotts.

The Marriott Plaza Hotel from the outside is a beautiful hotel. Its location right at the end of Calle Florida is a big plus and the distance to Plaza de Mayo and other attractions is perfectly decent for walking. I have Marriott Rewards gold status which helped me score a larger room with huge bay windows looking out over Plaza San Martin. The view is nice, but from the 4th floor, the street noise can be quite loud. So, if you are a light sleeper, you definitely need to try to get a higher level room. The room was spacious and bed was extremely comfortable. Service, room amenities and housekeeping were good and fairly consistent with other Marriott properties, although there is evening housekeeping. As mentioned in other reviews, the paint is chipping in places and the fact that this is an older hotel is apparent in places, but everything in the room was in good working order. The health club was above average - big floor space, but it didn't have a lot of equipment. Overall, I would recommend the hotel and the price, $200/night, for a weekend rate is probably fair.
