“Not so good, not so bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Location is good, but quality of services is not. Once upon a time it was a five star class hotel Crowne Plaza, but since 2005 no longer was a member of this international wide recognized brand. Being there is an unique experience to see the recent history of Buenos Aires, a lost glamour from good times now caught between the Tango show places and the political manifestos routinely hapenning at avenue 9 de Julio, in front of visitors. The rooms were refurbished, in a not so good way, but acceptable if you want to stay near of all important places of the city and don´t care to be in a once upon a time excelent hotel. The history of Buenos Aires is visible at each corner of thos hotel, like a museum where you will stay and sleep for a while. Enjoy the journey back in time!

Room Tip: If possible, choose the City View Studio King with 2 Double Beds .This is a good option with a reaso...

All very functional. i.e. most of a business persons needs are catered to, but there is little initial service. e.g. no instructions in the room on how to use the safe - and it is not like other safes, hence this requires a phone call to the front desk to get someone to come up and explain how to use it. There is also no signage telling you if you are in the north of the south tower (and hence how to access the gym or the golf – they are in different ‘towers’).

Also rooms on the side are above the air conditioning units and are very very loud, it is quieter to be on the main road with all the traffic.
The bed is very comfortable, although you can feel that it is 2 single beds pushed together to make a kingsized bed.
Plush furnishings.
Breakfast of fruit, cereals, hams and cheeses, and criosstants with dulce de leche a sort of caramel paste (addictive, sweet and probably millions of calories but delicious)
Stayed for work – Wifi works well, however good, bed comfy and decent office chair and table.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side overlooking the airdonditioning units have aview of a lwarge white wall, about 15...

The hotel is beautiful and well maintained, the view from the terrace and spa is breath taking, all the personnel is friendly and willing to help with directions and advise about the city, the location is prime and you will find hundreds of goos restaurants and pubs, I highly recommend this bautifull landmark... However if you are expecting a five stars breakfast, this is not the place.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Stayed here for almost a week while working in Buenos Aires. The hotel itself has a great central location and on the surface is quite nice, however upon closer look the facade of luxury fades. The room I stayed in (a single on the 11th floor) while very comfortable and furnished adequately showed a few signs of age, mostly in the bathroom and that the carpet had raised itself in several places. Also what really bothered me were the little fees that kept popping up. WiFi is not free, it's 60 pesos per day (which adds up) and using the Pool/Fitness center is another 23 pesos every time you go (there is a pretty amazing view of the obelisk and Av 9 de Julio from the Fitness Center though) These extra little costs are just an annoyance and it seems like the hotel should be better... oh well. On the flip side, a wonderful breakfast was included in the cost so that is a good thing. The service was quite adequate. Oh the whole an average sold 3 stars.

This old-style classic and kinda colonial hotel perfectly located at the widest and central to most areas avenue. Rooms are not big but furnished in style, beds, bathroom - all right. Breakfast is full and nice. Wifi is available for as many devices as you want for free. I would give it 5 out of 5 if they had not charged me all of a sudden when iwas checking-out for using gym which was unbelievable and hard to understand for me. Though my previous stay there was nice and easy - no extra gym charge..

This hotel is centrally placed with good access to public transport. It was probably luxury once but it has 2 towers and the one that I stayed in was certainly in need of refurbishment. I am told that the second tower had been renovated. Stayed 4 nights and had 3 different rooms. First one the a/c stopped working so they moved me to the 9th floor which seemed to be a smoking floor. The room certainly smelt very musty. later on that day I was asked to move due to a plumbing problem in the room below and got upgraded to a suite. Staff are excellent and friendly and the free breakfast was good. View from the room was bad but I was at a conference so this was not a major issue. Plenty of restaurants near by. If you can get this hotel for a reasonable price then I would recommend it but do not pay full price as you can get better.

Room Tip: cab from air port was 198 pesos out and 220 in

Panamericano Buenos Aires Hotel is a very good hotel full of charm, with all its woodwork, marble and gilt... Everything within the hotel from top to bottom and including the lifts will be a glimpse back to the golden age of Buenos Aires. As part of a group, we had the chance to dine one night in the reception hall on the first floor which was really stunning! High coffered ceiling, glit, paintings, fantastic! (unfortunately I did not take photos of the hotel during my stay but I think we can see it on their website). The room I had for myself was also very good and within the renovated aisle (apparently rooms on the non renovated aisle are a bit ageing so try to go for this one). Very spacious, clean, parquet floor, good large bed, marble bathroom, and a wonderful view on the 9 de Julio avenue and the obelisk. And I forgot to mention the pool and fitness center (pretty average though) at the top of the building which are for themselves a reason to stay there. A 360 view on the city, black and white tiled pool deck and glass windows and ceiling! Stunning!

Also the location is very good, on the Av 9 de Julio, just beside the obelisk and just across the road from Theater Colon. Besides, I think it should be appropriate to inform now fellow travellers that this avenue is infested with thieves that would try to snatch any valuable you would wear on you if you are not on the look out. People in our group who did try to go out with jewels have almost all been approached by thieves : usually teens from Paraguay or some poor Latin american countries. It was not 1 or 2 people who got valuables snatched, but rather 5 or 6. During both the day and night. And just 5 meters from the hotel... So be VERY cautious and try to stick in groups if you can. And I am not sure this is just this avenue concerned by those thefts but rather the whole city.

So overall, Buenos Aires is a lovely city and Panamericano a lovely place to stay at a very good value. Totally deserve 5 stars. Of course it is not at the level of the Park Hyatt which is incredible (but it s also really not the same prices...), but it should certainly be ranked better than 150 out of 400 hotels!

Room Tip: Ask for the renovated rooms, on your right when you enter the hotel
