“Wonderful but with flaws”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We picked this hotel for a romantic week away, and overall I was very pleased - a reconditioned older building renovated with an artistic sensibility, there is nothing to complain about on an aesthetic level. Nicely laid out rooms, mixing the clean lines of modern furniture with older-style surroundings. The two-person hot-tub in our room was wonderful for relaxing. The patios of the name are very nice for sitting and reading, and the roof-top pool is a great escape from hot and humid days in Buenos Aires. Staff were uniformly helpful, friendly and informative, and clearly went a long way towards making the stay of every single guest the best they could. If the San Telmo area is where you want to be, the hotel is nicely located. However, be forwarned that the area is dirty, heavily graffitied, and not really suitable for walking after dark.

As for the flaws: The toilet in our room screamed after every flush - a two minute roar that is sure to wake anyone and keep them awake. Our room was located close to the maid station and we were awoken every morning by 830am with banging carts and sloshing water. The double bed was not terrible, but not great either, and we both awoke with sore backs that worsened as the week went on. Breakfast was ok, but hardly outstanding. While in general the room was kept spotless by the maid service, don't look under the bed. Eeeew.

On the balance, I would still recommend the hotel, as the beautiful design really won me over.

Patios is a great hotel, low key, extremely friendly and brilliantly decorated. Rooms, well mine anyway, was good size, at the back of the hotel overlooking the courtyard where there are unusual but artistic "sculptures". The front desk staff could not have been more friendly and helpful with big welcoming smiles. My room was well furnished and very comfortable. The adjoining cafe where breakfast is served has a good modern menu and the included breakfast was tasty and there was plenty of it. Eggs were on offer although I didn't have them. Sadly I could only stay for one night as they were fully booked for my return from Iguazu but Augustine was happy to keep my suitcase safely for my return. I shall look forward to staying here in my next visit to Buenos Aires. And San Telmo is a great neighbourhood by the way!

Room Tip: I stayed at the back on the second floor where it was quiet and peaceful. Felt very much like being...

This was my first visit to BA and we really enjoyed this hotel. It was an oasis of calm in a busy, shabby city.
Positives: Nico at reception is fantastic (others less so), Rooms are modern & comfy with nice big safe for laptops etc, very good breakfast (with eggs if you ask), nice lounge on 1st floor, pool on the roof, close to subway and buses. Be sure to visit Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo...just a few blocks away.
Negatives: Squeaky door upstairs needs oil - no really, it´s LOUD. (ladies toilet door next to the 1st floor lounge)

I stayed two nights in this hotel - and I liked it very much. It is new clean - very small room however has what you need. I recommend for those who arive at night that either the hotel starts offering some drink and snacks or guests should remember to bring something to snack on if they arrive after 6 pm.

We spent 6 nights in Patios de San Telmo in August 2012. It's in a lovely old renovated house in a very good location in San Telmo, about 10 minutes walk from Plaza Dorrego. Buses go right past the door and the subte is not far away. The room we had for the first few days was ground floor off the first patio closest to reception. It was nicely decorated with very comfortable bed, new TV, crisp linen, smart ensuite and very quiet but was quite dark and compact. The next room we had was looking over the rear garden area. It was larger and very light. Breakfasts were in the little cafe off the street and were really good, great fruit salad, range of cereals, toast, eggs, etc. The hotel also has a nice sitting room upstairs with computer, library and a small gym. WiFi worked pretty well in most parts of the hotel.
The staff were fantastic, very good English, friendly, very helpful organising all sorts of things and giving good advice on where to eat etc. A great choice when in Buenos Aires and good value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street are quite noisy. The rooms on the ground floor off the first patio were quite d...

I stayed at the hotel by chance, booking blind through booking.com. wonderful surprise. Ended up extending for one week and coming back again for another 3 day weekend. The location is great, close to subte and buses. The product is great. Very quiet, clean, good gym, public spaces and the food is very good. Perfect in BUE at a reasonable price. The staff are so friendly and helpful in reception.

Room Tip: the rooms inside the ptios ae more quiet. the 3 rooms on the street are noisy on weeeknds due to the...

In our five nights at Patios, four were in a room facing the street and one was in a Patio room. The difference was noticeable. The rooms facing the street are still lovely but they can't quite block out all the street noise. And on Saturday night, there is plenty of noise.

We mentioned this to hotel staff and they offered to move us without any hesitation. We are pretty relaxed however so did not take them up on the offer until later in our stay. When we finally did move (only because a side trip to Montevideo meant a different room on our return), we were sorry we didn't move earlier! The Patio rooms are spacious, quiet and contain the most deliciously comfortable beds.

As other reviewers have said, all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and it is nice knowing that there is always someone at the front desk no matter the hour of your return from a big BA night.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms facing the street (201 to 204). The patio rooms are excellent.
