“Excellent service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

This hotel is well positioned for visiting the Plaza del Mayo and other nearby tourist sites. The breakfast was perfectly adequate for our needs.
Unfortunately, I am a very light sleeper and found the noise from the street a problem. I just mentioned it the following morning to Juan( one of the desk managers) but did not make an issue over it. However, when we returned at the end of the day, Jonathan, another member of staff, said that an alternative room had been made available for us. We were very impressed with their prompt action and the staff's concern for our comfort. Thank you.

Room Tip: The room facing the street can be a problem if you are a light sleeper/ insomniac! However, this is...

We stayed there in April 2013 for 3 nights. Nice architecture and rooms are very nice. Roof terrace is also great. Check in was well done, staff was really nice. Breakfast ok, not fantastic, coffee was not very good. Extremely well located in San Telmo near Defensa st with many shops and walking distance to Puerto Madero and Plaza del Mayo. Need to try the pasta restaurant in front of hotel (Cafe San Juan- amazing !!!!). Only issue for us was that we had a room facing the main street, extremely noisy at night and second issue was that they put too much perfume in the room, our clothes absorbed the fragrance and whole luggage smelled- unpleasant. Overall, would go back but would ask for a room elsewhere in the hotel without perfume !!

This hotel is very nice. I liked the design of the modern layout within the old building. My room was on 2 levels and very comfortable. The bathrobes / slippers were a nice touch. I especially liked the roof garden which was a great spot to relax in after a busy day in the city. The staff were very friendly, even when I arrived quite filthy after an Andes trek! It's in a very handy location just off Defensa which in one direction takes you into the city centre on a short walk. In the other direction, you get further into San Telmo and the area where the market is held (actually that extends all the way down the street past the hotel). There are lots of restaurants very close by (the pizza place across the road was very friendly) and the little boutique shops had some great finds. I found it fine to walk around the area at night alone, keeping to the main roads, and the hotel is very secure.

This is a real "boutique" hotel. Its a cleverly converted old building just off the main tourist street in San Telmo.
Three is no real lobby area, but the friendly staff do the check in in the front hallway.
Inside there is an open metal staircase to the upper floor, where most of the rooms are situated.
The rooms are suite style, with a fairly large living room downstairs (ours has a sofa bed and washroom as well, so it would have accommodated more people).
The bedroom and main bathroom is upstairs, looking out over the living area.
It was quiet and convenient. The day staff were very helpful, the evening staff often had limited or no English.
There was a nice breakfast in a very small dining are, but there always seemed to be a table ready for us.
No problems in the local area. We went into town on a weekend when it was quiet. Near the Independencia Subway stop, we thought that a bird had pooped on us and were grateful when some locals helped clean us up. The whole thing was a set up and we had a phone stolen!
Be careful in BA!

Room Tip: If you are not good with stairs check to see if they have rooms at ground level, Did not see an elev...

The hotel is a beautiful rehabilitation of an old building, leaving a perfect blend of original touches and modern comforts. The rooms are well appointed suits with plenty of space (I was a single in a junior suite) and incredibly comfortable beds. The location is perfectly placed in San Telmo with no shortage of restaurants, bars and shops outside the door. The walk to the subte at Plazo de Mayo is about ten minutes. Best of all, the staff is as helpful, kind, competent and accomodating as any you'll find anywhere. The wifi works great and the daily breakfast is a pleasure to wake up to. Highly recommend to any and all.

The hotel is ideally located in the heart of San Telmo, close to some great restaurants (like Manolo and El Desnivel) as well as Plaza San Dorenzo, where you can watch tango shows for free whilst sipping a drink outdoors during the evenings.

The hotel is very stylish, and the rooms very spacious, set out in split levels. It is very well decorated and the staff are both helpful and very friendly.

I'm not sure if it was just my particular room, or if it's an issue generally in San Telmo/ Buenos Aires but the wifi was fairly unstable. However, the biggest issues in my view are how noisy the rooms are (when people where walking around upstairs, felt like they were in your room) and the shower screens aren't big enough which means that, very irritatingly, when you shower, there will be half an inch of water on the bathroom floor for the next few hours.

Overall, I did enjoy my stay there although it was not without its annoyances.

The staff is efficient and as kind as you would like to meet in every hotel. The hotel is very well located in the center of San Telmo and a has and incredible charm in both its common parts and its rooms.
But as we can't (and don't want to !) prevent the BA's youth from having fun at night in one their favorite's area, we would have appreciated this hotel being well isolated, which was not the case.
That is hardly something i can understand for an hotel that has been totally and nicely refurbished 1 year ago... Why did they not set up some noisy-proof windows for rooms with street views ?
So if you wish to get there, demand rooms on the patio or... run !!

Room Tip: Avoid street view rooms

Dear Guest:

Thank you very much for your comments. It always helps to keep on learning and growing.

I would like to mention, if I may, that our Hotel is placed in a particulary calm street in San Telmo. Of course, been Buenos Aires all a city with such a vibrating night life, it is possible to hear noises from the outside every once a wile. But it is not very usual.

I would also like to say that we own an historical house from 1867, protected by the Historical Preservation Area of Buenos Aires city. All those windows and doors that you mentioned do have double glass and special acoustic foam that helps to decrease noises a lot, but we are talking about charming wooden windows with more than 100 years old, with a great historical and architectural value, that is not the same than a modern absolutely non acoustic window, as you can imagine....

Its is also strange that we receive no complains from other guests in this matter. Anyways, the point is that, if we have known about this before, we would be most glad to change you to a Patio view room wich are very quiet and calm.

We sincerely hope that this inconveniences does not blur the perception of the rest of your nice stay.

Kind regards.

Patricio Harrington
