We used Cultura Cercana for three tours during our recent first visit to BA. In every case the CC guides were exceptional – friendly, engaging, professional, and thoroughly knowledgeable.
Buenos Aires Tour. We booked this for our first full day in BA after recuperating from traveling from the US. Our guide, Laura, was fantastic. She was personable, knowledgeable, and very accommodating to our needs and desires. We got a great introduction to the city and many of its highlights from the Casa Rosada to the Cementerio de la Recoleta to La Boca. Laura even took time to take us to the Buquebus terminal to get ferry tickets for our upcoming Colonia tour. Highly recommended.
Tango Tour. We wanted to see ‘real’ tango so engaged CC for their deluxe tango tour that includes an initial tango lesson followed by a visit to a milonga. Our guide couple was to be Andreas and Mirta. However, before our pick up time we got a message via our hotel that Andreas had called to say he was having car trouble and that David would be picking us up. David picked us up promptly (Argentines seem to be sticklers for being on time) and drive us to a dance studio were we met Mirta. Then Mirta and David taught us the very basic fundamental steps for the Argentine tango. From there we were driven to a milonga (in our case Salon Canning) where we enjoyed a couple hours just drinking in the atmosphere and talented dancers. My wife and I braved one attempt on the floor but it was short-lived due to our ineptitude. Again we all agreed that this was a wonderful evening and certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to get a feel for ‘real’ tango (versus the staged performances at the tango shows).
Colonia. This was a full-day tour providing a much different experience from Buenos Aires. We took an early ferry (8:45) from BA to Colonia that is in Uruguay, about 45 miles across the Rio de la Plata. Our guide, Bruno, met us at the ferry terminal in Colonia. Bruno was great – a young local man studying anthropology who was humorous, personable, and very knowledgeable. The tour included a walking excursion around central Colonia, lunch at a local restaurant of our choice, a visit to the local bullring, a winery tour and tasting, and a visit to a unique museum. The history of the area narrated by Bruno was fascinating.
