“Meat lovers paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

We came based on reviews from our guidebook. We arrived at 9pm and were the first to enter the restaurant. The server spoke no English but still tried hard to communicate with us. We ordered the 2 lomo medallions x2, a plate of papas, salad and a chorizo for the four of us - 2 adults and 2 kids. It was way too much food and we could've done with just one order of meat. It was all delicious, prepared well and efficient service. The restaurant was filling up as we left. There isn't much for ambience and it is a basic no frills kind of place but there were only locals dining which we took as a good sign. Price was very reasonable and the server seemed disappointed that we didn't eat it all, or did we want it packed up to go ( we have no place to put it in our hotel room). Overall, it was a Very good meal and if you want something informal and quick, this is a good option.

“Our worse meal in Buenos Aires”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

The meat was over cooked and tough. The cuts of meat were unusual (liver, blood sausage, intestine, etc). A total disappointment!

“used to be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013 via mobile

A few years ago this restaurant used to be an excellent place to enjoy tasteful asado at a reasonable price.
Unfortunately this has changed. Food is not bad but overprized now.
Staff is ok but not more.

“We loved this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Got lost trying to find a different restaurant and ended up eating here instead on a weeknight, quite early by BA standards. We were on a bit of a deadline, with a car coming to fetch us 90 minutes after we arrived; not only did they help us make arrangements with the driver regarding the change in pickup location, they also made sure we were served quickly so we still were able to enjoy a unhurried dinner.

The staff was warm, congenial, and had delicious suggestions on the menu. We are a group of 3 carnivores and one vegetarian, and we were all extremely pleased with the options on the menu. Everything was delicious, from the complimentary appetizers of empanadas and tortillas, to the butterflied "Mariposa" steaks, which were perfectly grilled. Overall we found Argentinian steaks to be overcooked, no matter how rare we ordered them, but El 22 nailed it, with delicious, flavorful, juicy rare meat, perfectly grilled. The veg in our group had a combination of potato and spinach gnocci in a half-and-half tomato and gorgonzola sauce, which was pronounced "fabulous!" by everyone who tried it. The side dishes were equally wonderful. We had a great cabernet from Mendoza (3, in fact) with our meal, and they finished our dinner off with a delightful glass of gratis champagne. The bill was extremely reasonable, and we enjoyed the dinner so much we went back a few days later for lunch, which was equally delightful.

The only thing I would change is the huge overhead screen running constand MTV videos. other than that, we had a perfect experience (twice!) when we visited.

Thanks El 22, we send you love from Texas!

“Godawful stake in Buenos Aires.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

Fair Cantina-Grill setting. Inattentive, surly, slow service. Poorly cooked stake that half of it was fat, and an average tomato-and carrots salad. Not worth.
