We liked the staff at this hostel, they were very friendly and eager to assist. We booked a private room with own bathroom for 5 nights, when we saw the room it was just too small for us, seemed larger online.
Not even a chair to sit on or a place for a laptop. Big sign in the bathroom.
You can't put toilet paper in the toilet which seemed odd as I can't figure out how this could be part of eco friendly as this would cause the housekeeping staff to come in contact with bacteria as even with gloves there is still matter on the gloves if you touch #2 stuff
We expected a double bed but 2 singles where what was in the room. we just moved them beside each other.
The manager was fine for us to find another place if we stayed 1 night. They offered another place nearby that they owned and even drove us over, to check it out, the room was much nicer but still tiny with no room for a laptop or any space to hang out.
We agreed to the 1 night and proceeded to go back online and shop and also walk around for a few hours to see what we could find, close by, that cost us a half a day which was a loss of some of our time. A bit stressful too. We found a place which I will refer to later in this.
We went to an asado ( BBQ ) that same evening for 60 pesos each, supposed to start at 8pm, we did not leave the hostel till 8:45 waiting for straglers to join, walked 10 minutes then took the subway and then a short walk to another place on a roof top, when we arrived 9:30 ish they were not ready and were cutting the meat with a basic steak knife, primitive but fine, no big deal, sadly it was all just beef and basically nothing else, about 20 people came including some of the hotel staff which were fun. 1 head of lettuce, 1 tomato and 1 onion was supposed to be enough salad for the group. No oil or vinegar or none that I could see. No one seemed in charge.
1 gal came who was a vegetarian from NY. It took some time for them to gather enough cups to drink our wine 90% were coffee cups. The first of the meat was ready by around 11 pm by then the group was drunk which was fine. The vegetarian gal left.
There were a few buns to have the meat with but no butter or anything else, I would expect a bit more professional service and basic tools to eat a meal with, hardly anyone had a plate, basically they would put meat on a plate and let everyone do finger food. While the meat was very good we ended up leaving early as there was no dessert or anything else. We were told it would start around 8pm, no big deal but waiting to 11pm is a bit much when you are starved and thinking around 8 is when you will at least get a bite of something, enough about the BBQ
The hostel is in a very good location, reasonably clean and good sized general area for all to gather, with 3 TV's and several couches, also you can buy booze there.
Can't comment on the dorm rooms but if you want a private room where you want to hang out in the room and need a place for a laptop etc you may find these rooms too small.
internet was ok but did require giving your email address to some system which we have never had before, it worked fine once we got that figured out.
We ended up moving to Boco Rooms about 5 minutes by taxi, which turned out to be a great change, room was double the size and for around the same price. Great service, in the end we were delighted about the change and our decision. It ended up being closer to the action and shopping etc, 4 restaurants within 1 block, some top rated
A tip about booking online if you choose hostelworld be care full about how many people you put in the initial booking when filling out the online form, it was our first time with hostelworld, when we got to the hostel the price was double of what it said online, in the end we got that corrected. Probably better to use Booking.com or call the hostel direct. USA funds will get you a discount and also eliminate any tax so that can be a huge savings
I am not happy to inform others but the NY vegetarian gal emailed us the next day letting us know she was ok as she left alone. We kinda hit it off with her, an interesting artist.
Sadly Someone probably another traveller had stolen her laptop, she was staying in a dorm room.
Guessing our experience was different from most who are looking for a private room
The manager of this hostel is a professional and dealt with the issue to our satisfaction.
All the best to fellow travellers
