“Great hotel for the price: Centrally located, nice staff, good breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

This hotel chain, owned by Accor hospitality is a good place if you are a budget traveller, but aren't looking to stay in a hostel. The rates can very from time to time but let me first introduce you to Argentina: They do have a serious issue with the US dollar bill. Due to restrictions imposed by the goverment, you can get dramatically different rates for your dollars. And here is the trick: The gap between official exchange rate and the "paralelo" is roughly 40%. That said, you can in fact pay "40% less" for your stay if you manage to get Argentinian pesos at the "paralelo" exch. rate.

So yes, under this scenario, ibis is a great choice. Easy access to Uruguay metro station and at a walking distance to Obelisco. Breakfast is not included in the rack rate, but you can always paid it separately. It's abundant, I do recommend it.

Free WiFi throughout the hotel, even in the room.. Did I mention it's Free? A Plus. Nice speed, could make many Skype calls without a glitch.

As I said, it's a no-luxury hotel (if you want to try Novotel, take the left entrance, it's the same building), but if you are a solo traveller or a couple it's your place in downtown.

Well located and in a crowded place, but I could sleep very well in the third floor. There's no room service. It could have a frigobar, even empty... And it's hot inside, even without heating. Ah, there's not so good places to eat around, but it's easy to go anywhere like San Telmo or Puerto Madero. Ah, Guerrin is good!

Good location at Corrientes Avenue, averaged priced, good lodge and breakfast but services fall short even for Ibis patern. At the end still a good cost-benefit. Take care with the pickpockets at the informal market along the avenue!!

Usually Ibis Hotels have a standard treatment as a very known hotel company, staff is usually well-trained. Well, that does not see to be a true on Ibis Buenos Aires Obelisco. First I thought that could be just that attendant but later, I listened other guests complaining and in the following day, when I have asked for some help, they did not care.
Also, I have been in a hotel where if you want to access their own web site (AccorHotels web site), it is requested for the guest to buy a internet card to get that. That is unbelievable and it seems something very weird and does not make sense. Would you pay your supplier to access their web site? It sounds very weird, right? Anyway, they charged me that. Also, some issues in the room which is not Ibis standard like lights in the bathroom did not work and shower box was leaking. Well, I have been in another hotel in Buenos Aires and for sure, they are much better and even though this hotel seems to be well-located, that is not true comparing with others which are much more well-located than this hotel. And if you are looking for a taxi, take any on the street and those ones just in front of the hotel are only interested if you go to Ezeize Airport. For any other place, they do not care.

Room Tip: Choose hotel. For sure you will find other with a much better cost/benefits.

Pros:

- Located in Cordoba Avenue, close to numerous theatres (with countless Broadway-style musicals much to the proud of the locals!), restaurants and bars;
- Rooms are what you typically expect in a Accor Ibis Hotel, despite showing some signs of deterioration.

Cons:

- Places to eat in the vicinity are usually a bit over the price for a budget traveller (due to recent years of inflation in the country). So here's a tip: there is a Carrefour market just a few blocks away heading towards the Obelisk.
- Be careful with some dishonest taxi cab drivers which stand in front of the hotel.
- There is a famous and deliciously generous pizza restaurant very close to the hotel ('Guerin', I believe). Woth a try and get a table early.
- Wi-fi in common areas can be annoying at times since it gets packed with other guests and children around.

Overall, the hotel is what you expect for a typical Ibis stay. Nice location in a very busy avenue. But nothing else that makes your eyes sparkle for it, unfornately. Thus, it can be disappoting to the value.

One last tip. Water tap is said to be drinkable in the city, unlike elsewhere in Latin America. But it tastes odd and the same goes to other bottled water you find in markets and groceries. Therefore go and look for a bottle of mineral water named 'Eco de los Andes', the only one we found that doesn't taste like a non potable water.

As the othe other rewiers said, it´s a Ibis hotel, so, it´s like a pizza hut, you know in advance what you will get. Breakfast room very nice, nice buffet, clean and confortable rooms and nice staff.
The location is perfect to explore Buenos Aires, 20minutes away from aeroparque airport 20 min(60 $ pesos) by walk to the casa rosada, 1 minute to the metro station. I

Room Tip: Get front ones, windows are well sealed, so you get a nice view noise free.
