I rang the bell at the easy-to-miss front door at 11AM on a Tuesday. I was greeted by the multilingual tour guide, paid my 90 pesos, and started the door.
If you were to view this museum on its own, you'd be bored fast. There a scant number of exhibits and the main purpose of this complex is as an event venue and banquet hall.
However, the excellent tour guide (who didn't offer her name) makes all the difference. I was lucky enough to get a one-on-one English tour of the building and all its history, how the property was used in different ways over the years and how the city has changed over the decades. She ties everything to the history of Buenos Aires and really provided a foundation for my understanding of the city and its culture. She was delightful, but you do have to listen and use your imagination a bit. This is not a tour for children or for those with short attention spans. But for me, it was a highlight of my trip to Buenos Aires.
