This Novotel is located in the theater district with a subway stop in the next block. I thought it was very convenient for getting around BA.

I was in room 318: looks out to the city street but there was no loud street noise.

The room, however, was designed for form over function – it looks great but is a challenge to use. I will detail the issues but I want to start with the info that I’d be happy to return to this venue given that I now have cracked the code on how to use the room.

There were over a dozen light switches in my room. The first night I was there I couldn't find the switch for every light so I had to sleep with the lights on. My recommendation is that you seriously find all of the light switches when you are first in the room rather than have to deal with it when you are in your jammies and not really in the mood to call the front desk for help.

Most of the lights are 'pot' lights in the ceiling and do little to illuminate the room. And this is why I’m giving them a 4 rating. Some things are part of the building’s construction but lights are something the current manager can fix.

There is one international power outlet but it is about 4 feet above the desk--a challenge on cord lengths.

The bath is divided into three sections. The toilet/bidet is in an enclosed room, which is important because there is a terrible sewer smell (which I doubt is fixable given the construction of the building’s plumbing).

They use real glass glasses. I broke one but no one seemed to care.

The bath area has opposing mirrors that cause a lot glare--as I said: designed for look, not use.

Good wifi.

The breakfast buffet is the standard one for South American hotels: semi-scrambled eggs, meats, cheese, fruit and too tempting pastries.

We stayed here in December 2013 for seven nights. We had a room on the first floor with twin beds. It was great - always very clean and quite comfortable. The only odd thing was the see through shower with a shade you could close so the others in the bedroom couldn't see you. Hands down the best hotel shower I've ever had. Watch out for the master power switch just inside the room door! Mini bar with a refrigerator for your own beverages and a safe in the room. No drawers which is odd but a nice sized closet. The shower leaked a bit at the base, but it wasn't a big deal. Fabulous breakfast buffet with anything you could possibly want from cold to hot (churros stuffed wtih dulce de leche then dipped into more dulce de leche - awesome). Wonderful pool area with three different depth pools. Comfortable lounges with towels and some umbrellas. Lifeguard always looked bored, but who could blame him. Refill your water bottles in the fitness center from the water cooler! Nice small fitness center and a small sauna area. Lobby area is nice and big. Always a security guard standing there so it's quite safe. The front of the lobby area has some kids stuff which was nice if you have small children. Two computers in the lobby to check your e-mail, etc. Front desk staff was always nice and quite helpful. Fabulous location with tons - around - restaurants, shopping, theatres, etc. Always extremely easy to get a taxi. Only downside was how long it took to get our lunch (two sandwiches) on Christmas Day with very few people in the dining room, but it wasn't a big deal. I'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 103 faced the inside as opposed to the street and had no view, but it was very quiet. I think...

We stayed here for 3 nights - the location is excellent, the hotel very good and the staff friendly. It has a nice outside pool and the breakfast was very good.
The main complaint regarding the hotel was that even on a high floor there was always noise from the street during the night. Especially on weekends.
As a funny note, we also stayed at Ibis Obelisco (which is in the same building) a week later, and we asked the staff from both hotels to get us a cab for the airport (the same airport). The price quoted by the Novotel reception was a bit more expensive than the one by Ibis. So just be warned...
